College Basketball 1/24/09: Mitch Picks Kentucky at Alabama

Kentucky (15-4) at Alabama (12-6)

The Line: Alabama +6

Is there such a thing as an SEC Conference match up in any sport that isn't a rivalry game? This one has all the makings of a good game as we have star players on both sides and teams who fully understand that every game is an opportunity to show the selection committee not only that they do belong in the tournament, but deserve decent seeding when they get there.

There aren't too many teams hotter than Kentucky as the Wildcats have won 10 of their last 11 and are an undefeated 4-0 in SEC play all in blow out fashion. I'm not sure why UK isn't ranked, but apparently their season opening loss to VMI is still hurting them as their other three losses have been to North Carolina, Miami, and Louisville; no shame in that.

Alabama has been 2-2 since conference play started and really needs this one to boost their presence. The Tide need to take advantage of every home opportunity they get as winning on the road isn't something they have gotten done this year.

Alabama is just 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games as the underdog and just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning record.

Kentucky is 4-0 against the spread in ther last four road games and 5-1 against the spread in their last six games overall. Kentucky has covered in six of the last eight in this series and the favorite has covered in the last four. Kentucky has it's sites set high and is on a roll.

Mitch's Pick: Kentucky -6
