Bobby Petrino: Scandal Will Haunt Jessica Dorrell Much Longer Than Petrino
On April 1, Jessica Dorrell was involved in an unfortunate incident that forever changed her life, and no, it wasn't part of an April Fool's joke either, although she probably wishes it was.
That day, Dorrell was a passenger on a motorcycle with the now-former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach, Bobby Petrino.
By now, you've most likely heard the story about the crash, the lies, the devastation and the turmoil at Arkansas. If not, have you been living under a rock or something? That would be really strange, because that only exists in a fairytale land where money has eyes and animals talk.
As time moves on, though, folks will see Petrino coaching for another team and most likely having great success. Of course, that's only if he goes to another college team, which wouldn't happen for at least a year.
But for Dorrell, she will always be remembered as the woman who had an inappropriate relationship with Petrino. This scandal will easily stick with her forever.
According to the Associated Press, Arkansas placed Dorrell on paid administrative leave a few days ago. As we all know by now, Petrino was first placed on administrative leave, but was later fired.
This all comes after the knowledge that Petrino hired her on March 28 as the new student-athlete development coordinator. The AP report states that she also received a $20,000 bonus gift from Petrino before she was officially hired, which Chris Bahn of Arkansassports360.com tells us was used for the purchase of a black Acura.
Who Will be Haunted More by This Scandal?
Petrino and Dorrell also exchanged more than 4,300 text messages in the past seven months. Those texts included pictures and videos, happened on game days and even after the motorcycle accident, which only makes matters worse.
To top things off, CBS reported shortly after this debacle began, Dorrell had been engaged to Josh Morgan, the now-former swimming and diving director of operations at Arkansas.
There is way too much stacking up against both Petrino and Dorrell to ever live this down, but the coach can easily escape it by getting another job and winning. That's in the eyes of the public, but back at home, there is no doubt that Petrino's life is ruined.
Dorrell, on the other hand, will be forever tarnished at her alma mater. There is no way she can recover from this, as too many people will unfortunately never let it go, especially if she sticks around Arkansas.
Even if she separates herself from that area, upon embarking at a new job, people's first reaction will be along the lines of, "Oh, you're the girl that most likely caused Bobby Petrino to wreck his motorcycle."
It's a terrible situation, but sadly the truth is, Dorrell will always be known for the crash on April 1, 2012 and the events that followed suit.
