Kansas City Royals Prospect Watch: Wil Myers

Bill RobbinsJun 7, 2018

In my first installment of prospect watch for the Kansas City Royals this season, I decided to take a look at 21-year-old outfielder Wil Myers.

Myers has been one of the most highly regarded prospects in the Royals' farm system during the past few years.

After being selected in the third round of the 2009 MLB draft by KC, the High Point, N.C. native has moved his way from rookie ball up to where he currently plays at the Double-A level.

Here are his updated numbers for the Royals' Double-A affiliate Northwest Arkansas Naturals from the start of play on Monday night:

G: 9

AB: 39

R: 6

H: 13

2B: 3

HR: 3

RBI: 7

SB: 1

K: 14

AVG: .333

OBP: .366

OPS: 1.007

E: 0

From these numbers, it's clear that Myers is off to a hot start for the Naturals.

But it's still very early in the campaign, and Myers will likely have to produce these numbers for the next month or two before he can think about a promotion to Triple-A Omaha.

The good news for Myers and the Royals is he's finally healthy, he's hitting the ball with power and he is starting to show why many scouts consider him the best pure hitter to come out of the Royals' minor league system in years.

Where will he go from here?

Stay tuned right here for the latest updates and news on Myers and other Royals' prospect throughout the season.
