Top Five Candidates to Win the Royal Rumble

Yair GalavizCorrespondent IJanuary 23, 2009

The Royal Rumble is upon us, and I would like to give my prediction on who I think might win it this year.

I will give a list of the top five superstars who might win it this year in order of who I think has the biggest odds. Here we go!

1. Randy Orton

This guy is going into a huge angle with the whole Vince kick to the face. He needs something to "secure" his job and to increase the power early on with The Legacy. A John Cena vs. Randy Orton WrestleMania match would be great in my opinion, with Randy winning the big one.

2. Triple H

As much as I hate this guy, I see a HUGE possibility that he will win this year's Royal Rumble. Although if I had the power, I would set up a Triple H vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania. I know many people believe it will be an HBK vs. Taker match, but quite frankly, you can have a JBL vs. HBK mania match to finish their program and the HBK vs. Taker match next year.

3. Edge

If somehow the WWE changes its plans and Jeff wins the title against Edge, he can enter the match as No. 30 and win it that night. Surprise, surprise!

4. Jeff Hardy or Christian Cage

Now for my fourth choice, I have a possibility of two wrestlers. The WWE seems to love surprises at the Royal Rumble. From Rey Mysterio to Undertaker, even to John Cena last year.

The way I see it, there can be two options.

First, Christian makes Jeff lose his WWE title against Edge. Jeff enters the rumble at No. 30 and wins a title shot at WrestleMania. He then has time to wrestle Christian Cage at No Way Out while the rest of the superstars fight at the Elimination Chamber without him trying to get another title shot.

The second option is that Jeff retains the title belt. Christian enters No. 30 at the Rumble and wins it. Huge surprise, and he will then go into a program with Jeff that would make more sense. Jeff wins at WrestleMania and we got fireworks and everybody goes home happy.

Well, these are my predictions with a little fantasy into it. Of course my top two picks make more sense and will probably happen. But I want to leave you thinking with a really bizarre prediction to end this column.

The biggest surprise winner of the Royal Rumble would be MVP. He has been humiliated and kicked around for months. There are MVP chants around the arenas now. He is now more a Face than a Heel. If his big push is coming, there is nothing bigger than a win at the Rumble and a world title match at WrestleMania against Edge...and winning it to become WWE Champion. Think about that!
