Liverpool: 7 Prolific Forwards Kenny Dalglish Could Target
Kenny Dalglish faces an important summer and he's all on his own following the departure of Damien Comolli.
Andy Carroll may have scored twice in two games but a broken clock is still right twice a day. Kenny Dalglish needs to invest in the front line in order to make progressive steps next season.
I made a list not so long ago of some more reputable strikers for Kenny Dalglish to target. Some decent points were raised as to the validity of the list considering Liverpool's poor season and current stature in world football.
Here is an alternate list, one which includes prolific forwards who would certainly be making a step up in joining the Anfield club.
Enjoy the slideshow!
Andriy Yarmolenko
1 of 7Andriy Yarmolenko is the prototypical modern winger.
He plays on either wing and loves to cut in, creating further opportunities for others or scoring the goals himself.
At just 22, Yarmolenko has his entire career ahead of him and can only improve. He'll be a prominent figure at the European Championships and Ukraine will hope he can fire them through the group stages.
He's managed 12 goals and six assists so far in the Ukrainian Premier Liga this season and while his market value is high, his contract will run into its final year after the summer.
A move is on the cards.
Luuk de Jong
2 of 7Luuk de Jong has epitomised the word prolific so far this season, bagging 23 goals in 28 league appearances and adding a respectable nine assists to that too.
Including European football, de Jong has hit the 30-goal mark for the season whilst playing for FC Twente.
The Eredivisie isn't renowned as the strongest league in the world but these figures suggest the Dutchman deserves a shot at a higher level.
Besides, Ajax outclassed Manchester United at Old Trafford not so long ago. They're also in the "weak" Eredivisie.
For around £10 million, this Dutch international could be the steal of the summer.
Matias Suarez
3 of 7Matias Suarez is a player who's been linked to a host of Premier League clubs over the past few weeks—including Liverpool—as his agent drums up the interest prior to the summer window.
His record is certainly impressive and next season represents the last of his current contract at Anderlecht.
Ten goals and 16 assists during the regular Jupiler League season in 27 appearances is a fantastic return from a player who can play anywhere across the front line—somewhat similar to Hulk.
Jelle Vossen
4 of 7Another player hitting the heights in Belgium, Jelle Vossen represents a slightly riskier outlay than the others on this list.
Twenty-two goals in 44 appearances this season represent a good two-to-one ratio for the Genk striker.
He plays exclusively as a striker, thriving off through-balls and using his pace to flummox defenders. He might be a little lightweight for the Premier League but for around €5 million, he's worth a gamble.
Dries Mertens
5 of 7Dries Mertens is absolutely killing it for PSV Eindhoven at the moment.
Similar to Andriy Yarmolenko, he plays in an advanced wide position cutting inside from the touchline to devastating effect.
PSV hit the jackpot when they landed Mertens and Kevin Strootman for a combined €13 million—a paltry fee considering their talents.
Eighteen league goals, 14 assists. There aren't many in Europe that can boast better statistics.
Kevin Mirallas
6 of 7It was a shock when Kevin Mirallas departed Saint Etienne for Olympiacos—the guy has goalscoring talent and I expected a bigger European club to come in for him.
He's still showcasing his talents on a consistent basis in the Super League and is just shy of the magical 20-goal mark for the season.
Mirallas is similar to Jelle Vossen in how he picks up his goals.
Bas Dost
7 of 7Twenty-eight goals and seven assists from 30 league appearances is one hell of a record. Bas Dost is yet another striker tearing it up in the Eredivisie.
Aston Villa have already been linked with the player, but Liverpool could blow the Midlands club out of the water with interest of their own.
Dost is yet to receive any full senior international recognition from Holland, something which will likely keep his price below £10 million.
