WWE: 10 Dream Opponents The Rock Has Yet To Face
The Rock is one of the biggest stars in WWE history and he moved on to become one of the busiest men in all of Hollywood.
The Rock is in demand because he has everything you could ask for from a big-time movie star. He is good looking, has charisma to spare and has the build of Apollo. Add all this to his great sense of humor and incredible ability to speak to anyone and you have the makings of a huge star.
Since returning to WWE on a part-time basis, he has created more headlines than anyone else and it is all due to the fact that he was facing off against WWE's current top star, John Cena.
This was a match we all thought was impossible. "The Rock is never coming back to WWE" had been pounded into out heads by every writer out there, but for those who kept hope alive it was a moment of validation of their faith in the Great One's return.
While he has been criticized by some, there is no denying the fact that he helped make WrestleMania 28 one of the best events in the company's history.
While we are able to scratch Cena off the list of dream opponents, there is still a lot of names people would love to see on the marquee next to Rocky's name.
Here, I will go over 10 dream opponents for The Rock and why they would produce great matches. This is, of course, all my opinion so please feel free to share yours in the comments section below if you feel I left an obvious name off the list.
Shawn Michaels and The Rock are two guys who both contributed heavily to WWE's success over WCW, and yet they never had the chance to face off one on one.
When Michaels was forced to leave for a back injury, The Rock started to gain momentum in WWE. By the time Michaels was ready to return, Rocky was gone.
They were never at the same level at the same time and Michaels is now retired, conveniently one year before The Rock returned to host WrestleMania 27.
I am not saying The Rock was afraid of Michaels, I am just saying it stinks the timing never worked out so these two could have a match.
If Shawn were to break his word and return for one more match, I think it should be against The Rock because it would literally be a once in a lifetime match for both men.
Cm Punk debuted with WWE in 2005, one year after The Rock made his final wrestling appearance for the WWE before returning recently.
These two have never had any major interactions, but CM Punk has voiced his opinion on the Great One via his Twitter account.
The Rock represents the exact opposite of CM Punk. The Rock is stylish, charming and charismatic where CM Punk is more likely to wear a Bake and Destroy hoodie than an Armani suit, has very little charm and is more in your face than charismatic.
The Rock is a character played by Dwayne Johnson, CM Punk is an extension of Phil Brooks' real life persona, there is a huge difference.
This difference is what might make this match so special. You have Rocky, who would be representing the over the top personalities of wrestling facing CM Punk, who represents all the people who portray themselves in the ring.
Combine this with what is sure to be a high-quality match, and you have the makings of an instant classic.
The Viper Randy Orton
Before anyone says anything, yes, I am aware The Rock faced off against Evolution at WrestleMania when teaming with Mick Foley.
The reason I am listing this match is because Orton has become a real main event star since The Rock was in WWE and now the two would be on an equal platform.
Orton has risen to heights he probably never imagined, surpassing his own father's accomplishments in WWE within his first couple of years.
The Rock and Orton are two of the very small amount of third generation wrestlers in the world and having a family feud angle would lead to a great match between them.
The one singles match they did have was during Orton's rise in WWE and he was more of a mid-card meal that was fed to The Rock.
Sting has never stepped foot in a WWE ring, which means there are numerous superstars he has never faced in his storied career.
The one person who everyone thinks he should fight is Undertaker, but The Rock would also make a great opponent for Sting.
While Sting has the dark side to his image, he has also been a very flashy wrestler in the past, which could play well against Rock's flashy style today.
Sting is always a great wrestler to watch as he knows the psychology of the business better than almost anybody. The Rock would be a formidable opponent who could make even Sting work to keep up.
These two are both guaranteed WWE Hall of Famers and having them wrestler for the first time would be big money for WWE and Vince McMahon.
AJ Styles and The Rock might not seem like a likely combination, but it is their contrasting styles that I feel would allow them to have an amazing match.
AJ is able to fly from just about anywhere in the ring and hit you with any move he feels like. The Rock is someone who uses his power and quickness to get the upper hand in his matches.
The likelihood of this match is pretty slim, but the fact that AJ Styles is so talented makes me think this match would rival anything we have seen in the new millennium.
If AJ ever gets his head on straight and realizes that TNA cannot bring him to the heights he deserves then he may go to WWE, but until that happens, this match is just another in a long line of impossible options.
Daniel Bryan is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers in the world today and The Rock is one of the greatest entertainers in the world today; how could this not be awesome?
Bryan is a pure mat technician who does not rely on raising eyebrows and spouting a dozen buzz words to get the crowd hyped. The crowd loves him because he goes out there and outperforms everyone else nearly every night—WrestleMania 28 being an obvious exception.
The Rock is not the most technical person, but he can hold his own against the best and a match between the The Rock and Daniel Bryan would be something to behold.
I do not see these two ever locking up, but if they do, I will be sure to DVR it because it will be something worth re-watching over and over.
Sheamus and The Rock are not the most compatible personalities for a match, but they both have similar size and build which would allow for an even matchup.
Sheamus has proven over the last year that WWE was not wrong to push him so early in his WWE run by becoming one of SmackDown's top baby faces.
The Irish Assassin and The Rock both rely on big power moves and above average quickness to make sure they win their matches, and putting them in the ring together could only lead to good things.
Sheamus is a good candidate for a match at WrestleMania 29 if he continues to gain popularity and gets better in the ring.
The other People's Champion had the idea for a feud with The Rock which never came to fruition, but never say never.
DDP has said that one of the few reasons he might return would be to face The Rock, and I think a lot of fans would like to see that match.
DDP was a hugely popular star in WCW who despite getting a late start in the business, went on to hold the World Title. He was called The People's Champion.
Meanwhile, another People's Champion was making waves in WWE and the two seemed destined to face off one day.
It never happened, but if it were to happen then it would be two legends facing off in a match that I am sure would be looked at as an exciting bonus for the fans.
The Show off of WWE is not a full fledged main event star yet, but I think if he were to face The Rock, even a loss would elevate him higher up the food chain.
Ziggler is talented, no one is questioning that, but he seems to float in and out of the main event scene in WWE more than anyone I have ever seen.
The Rock is a bonafide star who could push Ziggler, even by beating him, simply because the two would be trying to one up each other the whole time, making for an exciting spectacle for fans.
I am hoping that by next year Ziggler is fully integrated into the main event picture in WWE and has some kind of involvement in whatever The Rock is doing in WWE at that time.
Perhaps Ziggler could hold the WWE title until The Rock challenges for it, if Rocky is to keep his word anyway.
Alberto Del Rio
Another superstar with a family history in the business is Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio's family is well known in Mexico for being influential in the business and The Rock's family helped build the business in the U.S.
Do you see where I am going with this? The members of two of the more respectable families in all of wrestling facing off would create instant international appeal.
Del Rio is very skilled in the ring and The Rock is no slouch himself. These two have the capability to create the match of the year, easily.
Del Rio is still coming up in the WWE and a great way for him to be considered a real star would be to face The Rock in a match which shows he can hang with some of the people we call the best.
