San Diego Chargers Back LaDainian Tomlinson, Says He Wants To Stay in San Diego

NFLGridironGabJan 22, 2009

Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson is speaking out and telling readers of his site that he has every plan on staying with the Chargers. “As for now, I am a Charger and will be until I am told otherwise,” he wrote on LaDainian Tomlinson.com. The posting came up after a number of rumors that the team was interested in moving him this offseason and making Darren Sproles their feature back in 2009.

The 29-year old was hurt during part of the 2008 season but still put up 1,110 yards on the ground on a career low 292 rushes. The five-time Pro Bowl back has played his entire eight-year career with the Chargers. He still has three years remaining on an eight-year contract he signed in 2004 that, at the time, made him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

“I feel that I need to make it very clear that I have NO intentions of leaving San Diego,” Tomlinson wrote on the Web site.

"San Diego is where my career started and where I’d like it to end. I have nothing but love and the upmost respect for this team, the players and the Spanos family (Chargers owners). Me being trade[d] is completely out of my hands. I have ABSOLUTELY no control in that decision making.”
