Bubba Watson Wins Masters 2012: Happy Easter, Bubba!
Augusta is the perfect, picturesque golf course and the perfect setting for the Masters Tournament.
From it's white sand and effervescent sunshine to the greenest of greens, nothing could be more beautiful—except the story of this year's winner.
A day of eagles, albatrosses and all sorts of birds descended upon beautiful, sunny Augusta, Ga., as the world's best golfers hoped to get their arms into a coveted green jacket.
With Tiger and Rory nowhere in sight and Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson close but so far, the final day had to be determined with a playoff like all the great American sports.
In a classic conclusion, and as great as South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen was, it was America's Bubba Watson who was the Master.
As the excited Georgia crowd dispersed just before it went atmospherically dark on this electric night, the magic hour saw Watson sink a winning putt, before being embraced by tears and his family. He broke down as his star stock rose up and showed just how real it gets in this life and game.
After all the time and tension, questions and quirky twists there ended up being no tomorrow for one of the greatest Masters in recent years, but boy will there be one for Bubba Watson.
As incredible as Oosthuizen's punctuating play was—converting even a classic Augustus shot that could rival Tiger Woods "Hail Mary" tip of the cup—it was Bubba who proved to be only the third left-hander in history right for the iconic jacket.
In the same life-changing week he adopted a child, the emotional Watson showed just how much the journey of one man's life can mean. He became overcome with emotion, as he talked about coming home to his new life.
And what a new life it is for the father who shot through the trees, never forgot his roots and grew taller than anyone, during a weekend that will put a bigger exclamation point on the greatest week of the young 33-year-old's life.
Complete with a pink club and a bold, charming front, Bubba gave colour and charisma to a game some consider boring.
Without a lesson and with an unorthodox swing, Watson struck gold—and green—through it all.
Legends have came, conquered and worn their blazers, but in a legacy-making year, this Masters No. 1 showed us what sport is all about with his emotion and tears of joy. They talked about Tiger and Rory before this event, and of course, they'll speak on the rivalry again. But right now there's only one name on everyone's lips.
It's Bubba's moment now. And he and everyone else watching couldn't be happier.
