Affliction II Forecast: Arlovski Vs. Fedor
This Saturday evening's main event from Anaheim, CA, will feature a heavyweight showdown for the ages. Former UFC title holder and top heavyweight, Andrei "The Pitbull" Arlovski, has prepared himself for the biggest fight of his career.
On the 24th, Andrei will have his 'Day of Reckoning' when he challenges the No. 1 ranked heavyweight in the world, "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko, for his WAMMA heavyweight title, which Fedor earned after showing Tim Sylvia why he is labelled "The Baddest Man on The Planet."
Throughout Andrei Arlovski's MMA career, he has always had dangerous offensive abilities, even in his UFC years, Andrei was considered one of, if not the most feared striker in the division.
Coming into Saturday night, Arlovski has vastly improved his striking skills from his UFC years, having knocked out four of the five opponents Andrei has fought since beginning his training with famed boxing coach, Freddie Roach.
Arlovski's upgraded and pin point punches, low kicks and even flying knees, are a cause of concern for any heavyweight who is facing him. The one place where Arlovski will not want to go is to the ground with Fedor. Arlovski needs to avoid this situation at all times, even if he is in Fedor's guard, he should take it back to their feet.
The great thing about watching a Fedor Emelianenko fight is it's like poetry in motion, whether he is stalking his prey while standing or ground and pounding an opponent for an opening to lock in an arm bar and yes of course, evading certain defeat (e.g. Randleman, Fujita), Fedor will have your eyes glued to the screen.
Expect Fedor to come very prepared for this bout after his recent loss in a Sambo tournament, which afterward Fedor cancelled his American press tour, in order to prepare himself for the Belarusian, who had already begun to prepare for him.
Don't be surprised if Fedor decides to stand with Arlovski and beat him at his own game, Fedor has done this in the past with most notably, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in 2003, where he distinctly won all three rounds while taking the fight to Big Nog on the ground.
MMA HANGOVER's prediction for the Affliction 2 main event and to quote Big John McCarthy, "This is the kind of fight you live for": The expressionless Emelianenko is just way too much of a threat from absolutely everywhere while Andrei seems to be becoming more of a one-dimensional fighter, but that might be the right recipe to bring down the mighty Russian, but not likely.
Fedor by second round submission.
