WWE: Who Should Hold the WWE Championship Until WrestleMania 29

0 of 6

Hey Bleacher Report! For this article, I'll be predicting which superstars will hold onto the spinner belt.

While it receives much more prestige than the World Heavyweight Championship, it's pretty well known that the design of the Big Gold Belt is superior to the non-spinning spinner title. But I digress.

This article has a few "stretches" as in events that are by no means guaranteed to happen but would still be quite interesting. We now have CM Punk dominating the title.

1. CM Punk

When Did it Start? Survivor Series 2011

When Does it End? Extreme Rules 2012

Total Title Defenses? Four Pay-Per Views and a few meaningless defenses on Raw

CM Punk's glorious reign as WWE Champion is going to someday come to an end, and if you ask me, it's sooner rather than later. He's brought great prestige and interest back to the hierarchy belt of Raw, but with Chris Jericho not backing down, Punk's days as champion are winding down.

I read in a comment on a previous article that they would like to see Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk in a Submission Match at Extreme Rules. If this were to be true, I'd love to see something play out similarly to WrestleMania, where the two keep trading finishers until one of them runs out of stamina.

I definitely like Punk's gimmick as the anti-hero and hopes that he gets more shots at championship gold with that same attitude, rather than returning to the Straight-Edge Messiah or anything else.

2. Chris Jericho

When Did it Start? Extreme Rules 2012

When Does it End? Summerslam 2012

Total Title Defenses? Two: Over the Limit and Money in the Bank

He wins the belt at Extreme Rules, that much I said in the last slide. Now I will talk about his reign. It will be short because as rumors point out, Chris Jericho will not be around long after Summerslam although he will be around for the Biggest Party of the Summer.

So who does he lose his belt to? It's not John Cena, as I suspect him to be feuding with Brock Lesnar. It will not be CM Punk, because his time in the limelight will be over for a little bit, so it must be:

3. Rey Mysterio

When Did it Start? Summerslam 2012

When Does it End? Survivor Series 2012

Total Title Defenses? 2 -- Night of Champions and Vengeance

He may not be as mobile as he once was, but the man should still be able to wrestle at a high level. The later summer months is generally a time of the year when WWE tests smaller-named superstars with the belt, rather than sure-fire champions like CM Punk or John Cena.

He was robbed of his title last September, so this time I think he deserves a fair shot. The knee injury is a little frightening, but every superstar has to overcome some injury.

His reign would be a pretty nasty one, similar to Alberto Del Rio, where he ever so narrowly defeats his opponents. He will lose his match in the main event of Survivor Series to....

4. The Miz

When Did it Start? Survivor Series 2012

When Does it End? Royal Rumble 2013

Total Title Defenses? One: Tables Ladders Chairs 2012

Sure, he isn't the best candidate to have the title come Royal Rumble, but his reign will be short and sweet. He will only have to defend the title once and under Johnny Ace's regime, he has a corrupted leg up on all other competitors until Royal Rumble, when the new champion defeats the system and takes the Awesome One's title.

5. Brock Lesnar

When Did it Start? Royal Rumble 2013

When Does it End? Until the end of this article

Total Title Defenses? One: Elimination Chamber

I'm still in the air whether Brock retains his title at WrestleMania but I do think he will have his hands on the WWE Championship. And as a great reward for WWE Universe's loyal viewing, Brock Lesnar will do the WWE a favor and return the belt to its former glory, and design.

Notable Omissions and Final Thoughts

John Cena: The face of the WWE will be featured in many different major rivalries and it would ruin the main-event superstars if there was no title on Raw to fight for. I could see him taking on Brock at Summerslam and then sitting on the sideline.

The Rock: While I haven't seen any valid report that the two will fight at WrestleMania, I see the Rock taking on Brock for the 2nd time and I think he could win at WrestleMania; he's definitely capable of it.

No Repeat Champions: While I'd like to see CM Punk have two reigns in 2012, I just don't see it plausible unless they give it to him at the Rumble (rather than Brock Lesnar) or at Summerslam (usurping Rey's reign).

Any Smackdown Stars: I do not believe that the WWE Champion moves to Smackdown and I really don't see any main-event stars taking over Raw by storm, such as last year with Randy Orton going to Smackdown.

Final Thoughts: In this list, the WWE values quality over quantity turning to five bona fide champions to reign over Raw. While it wouldn't help for the future's sake, Raw is the show of the present, whereas Smackdown is the show of the future.

In the next few days, I will have a list for Smackdown's predicted champions.

Do you disagree with me? If so, please leave a comment with your predictions, I'd be very interested to examine it. Look for the Smackdown article soon, leave a comment and thanks for reading!
