Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Rex Burkhead Is Unsatisfied with Rex Burkhead

Adam JacobiJun 7, 2018

Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.

Rex Burkhead is taking to film sessions to try to improve his acceleration to the line of scrimmage, according to the Omaha World-Herald. While we whole-heartedly commend film room junkies around here, it's worth noting that, for a running back, the object is not to hit the line as soon as possible; it's to hit it when the hole opens up.

If there's no hole to be found, just plow forward and minimize the damage. Run smarter, not faster! Yes, SEC fans, this is the Big Ten Blog saying, "Don't do things too fast." We just write the jokes for you around here.

Penn State landed a commitment from 6'1", 300-pound DT Greg Webb yesterday, according to The Patriot-News. This guy screams 1-technique. He's probably not beating guards with speed or winning by stunting to the outside, but getting someone that short and heavy out of a gap would be hell.

Michigan offensive coordinator Al Borges, who now wears glasses, spoke to the media after practice yesterday, via MGoBlog.com. Per Borges, Devin Gardner's staying at backup quarterback, so let's just toss a bucket of cold water onto your hopes and dreams of Gardner as "Michigan's best wide receiver."

But Borges did have good things to say about WR Jerald Robinson—and that's not the first time that Robinson's been praised for his work in spring practice. He might be the third starter next to Gallon and Roundtree in that WR rotation.

Urban Meyer is using spring practice to bring in a ton of high-profile recruits, per Eleven Warriors, including several this weekend.

He's got 10 months to get his class together, and there are no bonus points for keeping pace with Michigan and its 16 commits, but if he's got offers to give out and recruits are willing to take them, hey, why not get all that out of the way early?

Finally, for reasons passing understanding, Minnesota made a video depicting its own mascot as homeless and in need of help (via Reddit CFB). There's also a guy pretending to be Sarah McLachlan. Enjoy.

I really can't understand why this video exists. The only reason to use your mascot like this would be for fund-raising purposes, but the phone number at the end is fake. They just did this for the hell of it. What in the world?
