Reflection on Blogging

Ryan LesterJan 19, 2009

With the Steelers making a return trip to the Super Bowl, I can’t help but remember how I got started in the wonderful world of blogging.  I had considered starting up a blog on Sporting News for a while.  I had some success in their fantasy games and had commented on articles from time to time, but wasn’t really using all of SN’s capabilities.  Namely their blog platform.

When I got started I didn’t know the slightest thing about blogging.  I’ve always loved discussing sports so I figured why not give it a try?  Nobody’s going to read it anyway.  At least that’s what I thought.  I never imagined it would lead to my own website down the road.  Funny how things work out.  If you’re interested here is my first ever post.

Pittsburgh Stealers

“I don’t know about you, but after watching the Super Bowl (vs. Seattle)  I was ashamed and pissed off. The referees played a big role in the outcome of another playoff game. This time the Grand Daddy of all football games. Being a Patriots fan I was outraged by the referees horrible calls (against Denver) that helped end their dynasty. The Pats were outplayed that day, but two huge calls that cost the Pats 11-14 points. That same round the horrible call in the Pittsburgh-Indy game set me over the edge.

I should have known that Pittsburgh was due for some makeup calls after Joey Porter not getting fined for his comments about the league and the officiating. The tricky tack pass interference. The phantom holding. The chop block on a tackle. Just plain awful. If this was South America and it was futbol….the refs would have been shot. At least we live in the good US of A and all they will get is ridicule.”

Wow, I was pretty bitter.  To this day I contend that Super Bowl was one of the most poorly officiated games I’ve ever had the sorry pleasure of watching.

I still do not hold resentment towards the Steelers and I certainly couldn’t tell you who was officiating that day.

I am pulling for Arizona in the Super Bowl, not because of that game, but because I enjoy a good underdog story.  I just hope the guys with helmets play a bigger role in determining the outcome than than the guys with yellow flags.
