The Kansas City Chief Saga Continues

Wow. Chiefs fans, be prepared for a very eventful winter and spring. With Scott Pioli coming in and Herm Edwards and Larry Johnson possibly going out, there could be some drama.

After the last two years of Chief football, I cannot wait for it. The more drama that's out there, the more tickets get sold and interest there is in the team.

There was a report that came out that Pioli was talking to the Patriots about trading Larry Johnson for Matt Cassel. I laughed the first time I heard it. The trade included swapping first-round picks, and the Chiefs would receive a draft pick next year.

The Patriots aren't stupid enough to trade a good quarterback for a trouble-making running back that has had mediocre seasons the last few years.

If the Chiefs were able to trade Johnson, they wouldn't get too much in return. The only thing that made this trade even close to realistic is the swapping of first-round picks. But I don't think the Patriots are willing to trade up just to pay millions to an unproven player.

I think the reporter that reported this trade rumor was just making all of this up. I think Pioli is down to earth, and he of all people would know what the situation was between the Pats and Cassel.

To accumulate more picks, which Pioli is wanting to do, they need to trade some players. I think the Chiefs should look into trading Tony Gonzalez for a third-round pick. Try to trade Larry Johnson and get something in return, which could be very difficult.

But nonetheless, this spring and summer should be very eventful. I can't wait to see the '09 roster. I think 50 to 70 percent of the roster will be here come Week 1. I'm not sure Herm was thinking straight when he said 85 percent of the roster was already in place.
