WrestleMania 28 Results: Grading Each Superstar's Performance
WrestleMania 28 lived up to all the hype.
WrestleMania was undoubtedly the best pay-per-view of the year, and it will be very tough for any show to top it. The Rock and John Cena put on one hell of a show, and it was not even the best of the night. The Undertaker and Triple H stole the show with their match that was an instant classic.
CM Punk and Chris Jericho did not disappoint either. Punk and Jericho put on a very good show that lived up to the hype.
All in all, this WrestleMania deserves nothing less than a 9 out of 10. However, not all superstars deserve high grades for their performances.
Here are the grades for each superstar's performance at WrestleMania 28.
Sheamus
1 of 15It only took Sheamus 18 seconds to win the match. One Brogue Kick is enough to earn him his high grade.
Sheamus' Grade: B+
Daniel Bryan
2 of 15The loverboy might have finally learned that business comes before pleasure. Daniel Bryan's love for AJ cost him is title and gave him a very low grade.
Bryan's Grade: F
Kane
3 of 15Kane rose from the depths of hell, and mediocrity, to come up with a shocking victory at WrestleMania 28.The spot that helped Kane win the match was great. Some might say it was "Orton-esque" the way he used the top rope to add extra power to his finishing move.
Hopefully this means that Kane will stop jobbing and finally enter a championship picture.
Kane's Grade: B
Randy Orton
4 of 15Randy Orton might need to take time off for two reasons: his recent problems with concussions and his stale skill-set.
At WrestleMania, Orton looked staler than a bag of chips that was left out in the sun for three weeks. The viper did not completely disappoint, but his performance in the ring was nothing spectacular. Knowing that this is WrestleMania, Orton should have brought more, but he didn't and that is why he gets a low grade.
Orton's Grade: C
Cody Rhodes
5 of 15Cody Rhodes may finally skyrocket to main event status with his loss to The Big Show at WrestleMania. Now that the Intercontinental title is off the dashing one, he can move on to greener pastures and probably challenge Sheamus for his World Heavyweight title.
With respect to his match at WrestleMania, his performance was decent but nothing special. Most people remember the way he shined at WrestleMania last year and expected him to do the same this year. Unfortunately that did not happen.
The good news for Rhodes and his fans is that he will finally be out of the mid-card.
Rhodes' Grade: C
Big Show
6 of 15Big Show can finally boast about a positive WrestleMania moment.
After two months of hearing about his failures and embarrassments at WrestleMania, The Big Show finally prevailed and is now the new Intercontinental champion.
No one expected this to be a 5-star match, and no one certainly expected for Show to put on an A+ performance. However, the Big Show did well enough to earn a decent grade.
Big Show's Grade: B-
The Divas
7 of 15The Divas match was pathetic once again, and the WWE needs to find a way to make this division interesting once again. Maybe when Kharma decides to come back to the ring, the Divas division will be saved.
Until then, these matches will always be the bathroom-break segment of the show for the fans in the stadium and the fast-forwarding spot for those who recorded from home.
However, Beth Phoenix was a part of this match, and her performance alone helps save the Divas from earning the lowest grade possible. Phoenix needs to be matched up against Kharma as soon as possible if the WWE knows what is good for the Divas division.
All the Divas' Grades: D
The Undertaker
8 of 15The streak lives on.
The Undertaker is now 20-0 at WrestleMania, and it seems like no one will ever end his incredible streak. Even after a Sweet Chin Music and a Pedigree in succession, The Undertaker kicked out. All those chair shots, the sledgehammer to the skull and the constant taunting from Triple H could not hold the Dead Man down.
The Undertaker is the best WrestleMania performer in WWE history. Sorry, Shawn Michaels, but it is not fair for you to call yourself "Mr. WrestleMania" when The Undertaker has had more success at the show.
Undertaker's Grade: A+
Triple H
9 of 15Triple H needed Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker to help carry him out after being obliterated in the ring.
HHH has always been one of the best storytellers in the ring, and at WrestleMania 28 it was no different. The story HHH told in the ring was classic. The cold war between he and Shawn Michaels and the constant pleading to The Undertaker for him to stay down was enough to earn him a high grade. Not to mention the fact that he kept everyone on the edge of the seat throughout the match with his near falls and quick counters.
Hopefully this is not Triple H's last match because it seems like he still has something left in that large tank.
Triple H's Grade: A
Team Johnny
10 of 15John Laurinaitis is now the general manager of both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown because his team, lead by David Otunga, beat Team Long.
The team as a whole was decent, but The Miz stood out from the pact. The Miz might finally be out of the doghouse. By pinning Zack Ryder and bringing the power to Johnny Ace, the new GM of both shows might treat The Miz with a lot of favoritism.
The rest of the team did well in spots, but only The Miz stood out. The Miz's grade reflects on the rest of the team because the victory was a team effort.
Team Johnny: B
Team Long
11 of 15Love is blind. Scratch that, Zack Ryder is blind.
After weeks of torment from Eve Torres, it is obvious that Ryder might need to find a new girlfriend. Eve was a huge reason as to why Teddy Long is not the general manger for both Raw and SmackDown. By entering the ring when Ryder was about to put away the Miz, Eve created enough of a distraction to throw Ryder off.
Ryder's grade should not reflect the rest of the team because his heart got in the way of his job.
Santino Marella did a great job as captain of the team. Booker T was impressive considering his age and likely ring rust. The rest of the team did not really leave any lasting impressions, except for the spot outside the ring with Kofi Kingston, R-Truth and Ryder.
Team Long did not get the job done so they don't really deserve a good grade.
Team Long's Grade: D+
Zack Ryder's Grade: F
Chris Jericho
12 of 15Apparently Chris Jericho is not the best in the world at what he does, but he is definitely second-best.
Jericho put on an incredible show in the front of the world at WrestleMania 28. The fight between the two for the title of best in the world and the WWE title lived up to it's hype. Jericho seemed to counter anything Punk threw at him throughout the whole match.
Not only was Jericho great from a technical wrestling standpoint, but he told a great story. The early trolling that Jericho was doing to Punk was great.
These classic Y2J moves, mixed with his great technical performance in the ring, earn him a very high grade.
Jericho's Grade: A-
CM Punk
13 of 15And the best in the world is...CM Punk.
Punk put on a great show once again. He finally faced an opponent that he did not have to help carry throughout the match. This is why his performance at WrestleMania 28 was better than any performance he has had in a while.
Jericho's constant countering and Punk's quick reactions were classic. Punk toughed it out through all the things that Jericho was telling him in the beginning of the match to retain his WWE title and his title as the best in the world.
Punk's Grade: A
John Cena
14 of 15John Cena was not able to adapt and overcome against The Rock at WrestleMania 28.
However, Cena surprisingly performed very well on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Cena pulled off some moves that he has never done before. The focus on The Rock's ribs was something that he usually does not do. Focusing on an opponent's body part and exploiting it throughout the match is usually reserved for heels.
Does this mean Cena is thinking about turning? Probably not. Cena will now work his way back and hope that The Rock gives him the rematch he deserves.
The "Cena Sucks" chants were not heard around the arena the way most thought they would be because he actually told a great story in the ring and did not abuse his "five moves of doom."
Hats off to Cena and his great performance on Sunday; hopefully for the WWE this is a sign of things to come.
However, losing this huge match bumps his grade down regardless of his performance.
Cena's Grade: B+
The Rock
15 of 15The Rock did not miss a beat.
The WWE Universe must have been shocked when The Rock came out as the victor in this once-in-a-lifetime match. Most people expected Cena to win because he needed to get over with the fans, but this did not happen.
The Rock seemed to be more like The Rock and less like Dwayne Johnson on Sunday. His performance was great because he implemented a lot of his old moves while adding in some stuff that many people have not seen before. The Sharpshooter looked sharper than ever, the Rock Bottom looked stronger than ever and the People's Elbow looked more electrifying than ever.
Hopefully The Rock sticks around a little longer because it seems like he has a lot left in the tank and his skill set is just as strong as it was 10 years ago.
The Rock's Grade: A+
