Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Urban Meyer Is Unimpressed

We'll have lots more on this later today, but Ohio State started its spring practices on Wednesday. It's the first time Urban Meyer will be leading drills and seeing his guys first-hand; while he was announced as the Buckeyes' new coach before their bowl game, Luke Fickell served as the coach through the end of the season. SPOILER ALERT: Meyer was not satisfied.

AnnArbor.com has a profile of Michigan lineman Taylor Lewan, who is emerging as the leader of the offensive line on and off the field. He's taking the game very seriously as a result, and said "I'm no longer trying to be the funny guy." Lewan's finger moustache tattoo heard this, nodded solemnly and walked off Lewan's hand—wait a second, no it didn't, because tattoos are freaking permanent. Moral: Do not ever get a joke tattoo. 

Nebraska has a battle at fullback on its hands, with C.J. Zimmerer bringing the most experience to the table, with converted defensive lineman Graham Stoddard and Eastern Michigan transfer Mike Marrow also in the mix. The fullback is extremely important in the Nebraska offense, even if he doesn't see many carries. A fullback's ability to get downfield and knock a linebacker into next week is usually the difference between a big play and a three-yard gain.

Subtle changes are afoot in Iowa's organization, as recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach Eric Johnson is now assisting with the defensive line instead of the TEs. This should give him more time to focus on recruiting. Kirk Ferentz announced that and other minor moves on Wednesday.
