Drugs Reportedly Seized from Apartment of Penn State Football Players

Not that the Penn State football program needed another hit to their morale, but it seems that is exactly what they will get, as two players reportedly had drugs seized from their possession. 

WeAreCentralPA.com reports police seized drugs and various paraphernalia from the apartment of Devon Smith and Jack Crawford.

The report comes after the site obtained the search warrant issued for the on-campus apartment, and as of yet no criminal charges have been issued.

Devon Smith is a wide receiver for the Nittany Lions and is currently on the team. Crawford was a senior defensive end last season and is currently working out and preparing for the 2012 NFL draft taking place in April. 

The Collegian Online reports that police officers were called to the location for what was a suspected break-in.

They entered the premises where they found quite the bounty, with various drugs and signs of possession strewn about. After that, it was no problem getting the warrant necessary to seize the items.

In order to investigate a potential break-in, the officer entered the apartment, police said.

When he entered the apartment, the officer found a grinder commonly used for grinding marijuana, a scale and multiple blunts in an ashtray, police said.

After a search warrant was issued, police seized multiple blunts, a bottle of liquor, a grinder, a scale, a plastic bag with suspected marijuana and prescription drugs, police said.

There is no way of knowing how this seizure will affect either player as they enter the pivotal points of their football careers. 

In my estimation, Smith will come under scrutiny from a program trying desperately to clean up their image.

As for Crawford, he will now have a major red flag on his file from every NFL scout willing to take a shot at his services. Every last detail is weighed and measured ahead of the draft, and this will no doubt factor into his stock and where he fits into the big picture.
