Here is a recap of the show from 1.15.09
Johnnie and Sean talk about the possibility of a merger with Golden Boy and Affliction and there is some doubts because the two companies are having conflicting fights Jan. 24 in southern California. Can anyone say conspiracy theory? The guys think Dana White had something to with this by speaking into Golden Boy owner Oscar De La Hoya, but this is all speculation.
Donald Trump with Affliction? Will it work and how involved will Donald Trump be? The Cage thinks Trump is there for negotiations and sponsorship. He does bring a big time name with big money, but will he be able to move up the MMA food chain and try to compete with the UFC? MMA fighter Jeff Monson tagged a Marxism sign in Olympia, WA.
ESPN The Magazine ran a story on Monson and his involvement in the Olympia anarchist movement in its Dec. 29 edition. The piece included a picture of him holding a spray-paint can, and a photo caption identified Monson as the person responsible for creating the mark.
Monson is very compassionate and works in the health field, but is still an odd character in his views on government. Once Monson heads back to Olympia he will be charged.
SI.com and CagePotato.com writer Ben Fowlkes joined the Cage Radio. Ben talks about the possibility of the UFC coming to Salt Lake, the WAMMA belt, and his experience covering MMA on SI.com and cage potato. Check out the full interview on the audio section at 1280 The Zone.
Cole Kirby MMA master picker, aka "The Kirby Method," makes his picks for these four UFC 93 fights. Kirby is one of the top pickers on the UFC website and nearly always finishes in the top 50 out of thousands of entries. His reasoning for picks is to not pick on emotion, but the facts.
Here are his picks; the bold picks are the winners:
Markus Davis/Chris Lytle the win will come in the first minute of round two.
Jeremy Horn/Rousimar Palhares by a submission choke round two.
Allan Belcher/Dennis Kang TKO minute three, round one
Rich Franklin/Dan Henderson win by unanimous decision full three rounds
Jeff Cain and Damon Martin from MMAWeekly.com join the show and before getting started they discuss nerd stuff that MMA fighters are involved with. Jeff says the Marcus Davis and Chris Lytle will be the fight of the night and thinks Marcus will win in a decision. Jeff then picks Dan Henderson to win as well and then Jeff is diplomatic and being undecided who will win between Jeremy Horn and Rousimar Palhares. However Jeff seems to be leaning to Palhares for the win.
Damon picks Henderson and then picks Paul Harris over Jeremy Horn by submission. The guys also discuss MMA in New York and their article from MMAWeekly.com written by Tom Hamlin who interviewed assemblyman Bob Reilly. Jeff and Damon feel Reilly is misinformed and recommends fans to not bash Reilly, but to inform him about the sport.
