2012 NFL Free Agents: Buccaneers Continue Big Spending by Signing Carl Nicks

Timothy RappJun 1, 2018

Well, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers certainly aren't letting all of that cap space go to waste.

A day after signing arguably the top wide receiver on the market, Vincent Jackson, the Bucs have added the best guard on the market—and perhaps the best guard in the league, period—Carl Nicks, making him the highest-paid guard in the NFL.

Adam Schefter broke the news via Twitter:

"

Tampa Bay reached agreement with former Saints guard Carl Nicks on a five-year, $47.5 million deal including $31 million guaranteed.

Between signing Jackson, Nicks and cornerback Eric Wright, the Bucs certainly weren't shy about spending this year.

"

Total deals for V. Jackson, C. Nicks & E. Wright: $140.5M. Guess team management wasn't kidding when it said the Bucs would be active in FA.

Nicks isn't the sexiest of the signings this year, but he may end up being the best buy for the money. He's an excellent guard and will anchor the Bucs line for at least the next five years. He's also a two-time Pro Bowler and was an Associated Press first-team All-Pro last year.

All in all, an excellent signing for the Bucs.
