St. Louis Rams: Tuesday's News and Notes at Noon (Free Agency Edition)

Shane GrayMar 13, 2012

Welcome to the pre-NFL free-agency edition of the St. Louis Rams "News and Notes at Noon," the destination for major Rams headlines and other related information.

With free agency beginning today, the Rams sit in position to make some big moves after clearing nearly $20 million in cap room, according to a column by Howard Balzer of 101sports.com. ย

Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch asserts in this article that the roster cuts on Monday (Ron Bartell, Fred Robbins, Justin Bannan, James Hall and Jason Brown) and other recent roster decisions were overdue.

Gordon says in the aforementioned piece that the Rams now have nearly $30 million in cap space for 2012.ย

According to a report direct from the Rams via stlouisrams.com and senior writer Nick Wagoner, the Rams are freezing or reducing all prices for season tickets. ย

Notably, the Rams are also offering a six-month, interest-free payment plan option as well, which may appeal to many fans.

As for the April 2012 NFL Draft, the players the Rams eventually consider and the positions they prioritize may be impacted by what happens beginning today during the NFL free-agency period.

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, St. Louis would be willing to consider trading down again from the No. 6 slot, as they did in trading out of the No. 2 position in the massive Robert Griffin III trade:ย

"

Rams hoping market for QB Tannehill heats up. They'd be willing to trade down again from 6.

Finally, in a speculative piece from Tom E. Curran for cnnse.com, the idea of the Patriots making an offer to Rams for restricted free-agent WR Danny Amendola, who the Rams tendered at a second-round level, is discussed.

If the Patriots were to make an offer for Amendola that the Rams did not not match, St. Louis would attain the Patriots' second rounder.

It probably will not occur, but if it did, it would be a good news/bad news scenario for the Rams.

It would be nice to pick up another premium pick since the Rams already have Greg Salas to man the slot if Amendola departs. ย However, it would be tough to lose the versatile Amendola, who had 85 catches in 2010, works well with Bradford and offers versatility as a punt returner.
