Lamar Odom Trade Rumors Tracker: Latest Updates on Dallas Mavericks Veteran
By the end of this season, we may have to refer to it as the year of Lamar Odom, because it is likely to bookend with his melodrama. Much of that may see him sent away from the Dallas Mavericks.
Here is the latest.
It's no secret that Lamar Odom wants out of Dallas. His play on the court and his moping off of it make him far more trouble than he is worth for the Mavericks.
That has them very close to pushing the eject button on this fiasco.
Dallas Mavericks
Jeff Caplan of ESPN Dallas has the latest on Odom, and it seems there is hope Odom stays in Dallas to see out his contract.
Caplan cites head coach Rick Carlisle on Odom and whether he now understands expectations.
"I do, I really do. We had a meeting with him the Tuesday before the Lakers game...A great meeting with him to make sure that he understood that our expectation is not that he be concerned about his stats, it's that he, any time he steps onto the floor he's completely into the game, playing full-out with as much intensity and presence and energy as he can, and the other stuff will take care of itself.
"
Odom sounded far more positive after a sound weekend.
"I'm willing to gut things out. That's the kind of personality I have, that's how I am, that's the kind of man I am. I'm loyal, trustworthy because I'm what they call stand-up.
I just want the same things in life as everybody else. I want to be treated fairly, we all want to be liked. Some of us do care.
"
Odom may still be one of the most emotional players in the NBA, but he is also one of the most gifted. The Mavericks would welcome a motivated Odom, because that player can be tough for teams to deal with.
Lamar Odom wants back in Los Angeles, which is beyond obvious. What we didn't know is that the Clippers are just as interested in Odom as he is in going back to Cali.
In this ESPN video, Ric Bucher reports the Clippers would be interested in acquiring the versatile big man, but they lack the pieces the Mavericks would want in a trade.
Nick Borges, writing for ESPN Insider, issues this on Odom getting bought out of his current contract.
"The Mavericks are not happy with how Odom has played for them, however, they will not attempt to buy out his contract by March 23, which is the last day a player on a roster can be waived and still play for another team in the playoffs.
"
Things will continue to evolve as we get closer to the trade deadline. Keep it here for the latest on Lamar Odom and where he will end the season.
