NFL Divisional Playoff Predictions

Kevin TrahanJan 10, 2009

As we reach the second week of playoff action, here are my predictions for the divisional playoff round.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Tennessee Titans

I've never bought into the Titans. They played a lousy schedule this year and never had a convincing win that proved that they are an elite team.

Baltimore, on the other hand, is a really good football team. Joe Flacco is a budding star and this defense is a Pro Bowl team.

The defense totally obliterated Chad Pennington and the Dolphins' offense last week, and I would look for the Ravens to do the same to Tennessee—pulling the "upset," if you will.

Prediction: Baltimore 24, Tennessee 10

Arizona Cardinals vs. Carolina Panthers

Honestly, neither of these teams has any shot at a championship, but it would be a real morale booster for either of these franchises. Arizona comes in hot after winning their first home playoff game in decades against the Atlanta Falcons.

Although Kurt Warner and the offense performed well, the real story was the defense, which held Matt Ryan to a mediocre (at best) day.

Carolina is obviously the better football team, though, and at home, there is no way I should pick against them, but because of Arizona's momentum, I am. The Cardinals pull off the shocker.

Prediction: Arizona 21, Carolina 17

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

Well, if my predictions are right so far, both home teams will have lost going into Sunday, but that trend won't last for long.

Congrats to the Eagles on playing well lately, but I don't think they have enough to hang with the Giants for that long. The Giants' roster is an all-star team.

For a while, this may be a close game, but I think the Giants will pull away in the second half and cruise to victory.

Prediction: New York 31, Philadelphia 14

San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

San Diego doesn't deserve to be here—plain and simple. They beat the Colts because of some luck and some bad calls that went their way at the end of the game.

The Steelers are a great team and their great defense should crush Damien Sproles and the San Diego rushing attack.

This will force the Chargers to go to the air and a rattled Philip Rivers will be picked off without mercy by the Steelers' defense.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 45, San Diego 6
