As we all know, the Big East is an extremely competitive conference. Home court advantage is very meaningful in conference play, which is why I'm backing three home teams in the Big East.
The Golden Eagles are currently 3-0 in conference, and are 11-0 at home. I was surprised they were only favored by a couple points. Above, you'll see Dominic James holding up three fingers, which I'm hoping represents Marquette's margin of victory today.
Providence is certainly improving (3-0 in conference) after an opening loss to Northeastern. Still, in my opinion, there is no way Georgetown loses this game. The Hoyas are 3-1 ATS as home favorites, and Providence is 1-3 ATS as a dog. Reality check for the Friars after facing three of the weakest BE teams. I'd be very surprised if this game was close at any point in the second half.
To round out the Big East, I'm taking Villanova (-2) at home against Louisville. I believed in the Cards just like a lot of voters, and even had the Cards in my preseason Final Four. But I've realized their inconsistent shooting is going to hurt them. They have three losses, but have yet to be an underdog this season. Vegas finally wised up and made them one today, but two points is not enough. 'Nova wins and covers at home.
I'll also be taking Arizona State vs. Oregon for two reasons. One is that Oregon can't really play defense. The other is that I've been high on ASU all year and while the Sun Devils are 7-4 ATS, I haven't really benefited, as I'm like 2-4 with them. My thought here is that I need to bet three or four of their games in a row to capitalize on what I think will be their overall success ATS.
I'm also taking Oklahoma as I expect the Sooners to win at Kansas State, a team that is 10-0 at home but hasn't really beaten anyone and has losses to Iowa, Oregon, and Kentucky. I don't see the 'Cats hanging with Blake Griffin and Oklahoma. Remember, Michael Beasley and Bill Walker aren't walking through that door.
