WWE News: Big Update on an All-Cruiserweight Show on the WWE Network
The WWE’s Cruiserweight division died, both literally and figuratively, in 2007 when Hornswoggle won the Cruiserweight Championship and later retired it.
It was a sad sight to see the belt that had been the centerpiece of so many feuds between the likes of Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Jericho go away after being placed on a dwarf leprechaun, but looking back at it, it was probably for the best.
The WWE placed little to no emphasis on the Cruiserweight title during the last few years of its existence and didn’t seem to care too much about pushing smaller wrestlers.

But it looks like that’s going to change. Kinda, sorta.
"November is also when WWE plans to debut a new show featuring only Crusierweight wrestlers. Talents who had been in touch with WWE about working the show were told that plans to sign anyone were pushed to the fall. WWE is looking for wrestlers in the 200 lb range.
"
Finally, a move I can get on board with.
I know that Vince McMahon and the WWE brass probably don’t see smaller wrestlers as marketable or big draws, but I think that the success of smaller guys like Rey Mysterio, Chris Jericho and most recently, Daniel Bryan proves that there is undoubtedly a place for these guys in the WWE.
Heck, I’d even argue that the shorter, lighter wrestlers are considerably more entertaining than the big jacked-up meatheads that make up a big part of pro wrestling.
I’d rather watch Kofi Kingston face Evan Bourne or Justin Gabriel vs. Hunico than see Ezekiel Jackson take on David Otunga any day of the week, and thanks to the WWE’s upcoming Cruiserweight show, we’ll now have an opportunity to watch matches that focus mostly on wrestling, matches like the ones I mentioned.
Though the WWE is looking to sign some new guys for the Cruiserweight show (obviously a smart move), I would love to see the lower and midcard workers who are already on the WWE roster get a chance to compete on the WWE Network as well.
There’s definitely a big fanbase for Cruiserweight wrestling, and this new Cruiserweight-themed show could restore some of the credibility to the Cruiserweight Championship and give us a place that features quality matches from top to bottom.
