Boston College Basketball: From Incredible Win to Historic Loss

"The North Carolina Tar Heels will go undefeated"—almost every college basketball analyst in November of 2008.

The world seemingly collapsed when the unbeatable team was beaten in Chapel Hill. We have been told all year UNC would win every game by 20 points or more and would not be tested. Come on people, let's be realistic—it's a 30+ game season.

Boston College stormed onto North Carolina's historic campus with one thing in mind: handing the Tar Heels their first loss. Led by guards Tyrese Rice and Rakim Sanders, the Eagles put on a show on national television and dominated the entire game.

Rice put up 25 and Sanders scored 22 to put away the formerly No. 1-ranked Tar Heels 85-78. The sports world was immediately forced to answer questions such as, "Are the Heels as dominant as we thought?" or "How far can BC go with this talented backcourt?"

Well, you didn't have to look far to answer the latter.

Boston College followed up a win in Chapel Hill against some of the better athletes in college basketball with a loss at their crosstown nemesis, who feature future doctors, lawyers, and CEOs.

That's right: Harvard.

The Harvard Crimson let the world know one thing. Any court, any team. With the evolution of college basketball comes the introduction of the mid-major conferences, but does Harvard even count?

Harvard has zero scholarship athletes on their basketball team, compared to 12 for the Eagles. So what happened? Easy—the Eagles were complacent with their win over the Tar Heels and refused to put forth any sort of effort in the game, which saw junior Jeremy Lin torch them for 27 points.

The Eagles surrendered 49 points in the second half, proof that they had no intentions of winning. This loss should make any Eagles fan embarrassed to call themselves such, and should bury themselves in their crimson and gold until March.
