NFL Combine 2012 Results: WR Michael Floyd's Stock Skyrockets After Blazing 40

Justin WeltonJun 7, 2018

Michael Floyd will be a first-round draft pick in the 2012 NFL Draft—even with some of the off-the-field issues he may bring to the table.

On Sunday, Floyd had his draft status skyrocket after running a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

There haven’t been many wide receivers who were better than Floyd in the past two seasons in college football. He recorded 179 receptions, 2,172 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2010 and 2011.

His skill level is present at 6’3”, 224 lbs, but teams worry about his character issues. Floyd is eager to put his history in the past, according to Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun-Times.

"

I went out less—just kind of changed the whole environment around me. Friends. Just guys that I wouldn't have to be in that position of having to do things that would potentially put me in a troubled positions. I went to alcohol classes at school with a counselor with a whole bunch of kids from Notre Dame that were kind of going through some problems, too. It was a good experience and I liked it.

"

I believe that Floyd will be fine in the NFL. Character issues are more of an issue, to me, if the athlete struggles with effort level. It’s much easier to deal with some issues off the field.

Floyd was a college student who had issues with alcohol. Learning from mistakes is what every kid will be faced with in their lifetime and Floyd is no different.

"

People all the time have mistakes like this. Unfortunately it happened to me on a big stage going across the nation. It's about moving forward. It's about making sure you don't make the same mistake again. And just keeping a positive head and staying on the positive side of things.

"

With his performance in the 40-yard-dash at the combine, adding a 4.42 40 to his 6’3” size bodes extremely well for his draft stock.
