Allen Iverson on SLAM Magazine Cover

Chris ThompsonJan 6, 2009

slam-mag-coverSlam issue 125 is now officially up for sale, and who graces the cover of this sacred magazine: Allen Iverson. Of course, for anyone who reads this magazine knows that he is an annual guest on the cover. He has been on the cover for 10 of his past 13 seasons, and now he is going on his 11th cover.

But why do the SLAM editors continue to put him on the cover:

“As the Free-Press story says, and as any longtime SLAM fan knows, dude has basically been an annual cover for us since he came in the League. And honestly, we never felt the slightest inclination to apologize for it. Besides the joy he has provided us with for 13 years, sales numbers show that he’s been either the most or second-most (MJ) popular cover subject in SLAM history. Simple truth of magazine publishing: when someone sells, you put them on the cover again. And again.”

Why shouldn’t he be on the cover this year? He is with a new club, and has a new attitude, a can-win attitude by playing with teammates.

Hopefully he can have another cover story except with the whole team after winning the championship. Congrats on the cover AI.
