What's At Stake?
Will Kentucky Win the SEC?
Kentucky is trying to extend the longest winning streak in the nation. They have won 18 consecutive games and can already lock up a share of the SEC regular-season title by winning No. 19 tonight.
The Wildcats are easily the best team in the nation right now and ranked No. 1 in both the AP and USA Today polls.
It’s a tall task for the Bulldogs to overcome their opponent and it would certainly give them the signature win they need as they gear up for March Madness..
Rick Stanbury’s squad is in the midst of a three-game skid right now with two overtime losses to SEC foes.
They’ll need to get out of that funk if they want a chance to pull off the major upset.
What They're Saying
"His thing is you've got to be their cheerleader at the end," the UK coach said. "That's his thing to me all the time. You're not changing them now. They are what they are. Cheer them on."
This wise adjustment of strategy may be the reason why both Calipari and Brown have been so successful.
Michael Wardlaw of The Starkville Daily News is reporting that Bulldogs coach Rick Stanbury knows his team has to be exceptional to win tonight.
"When you're playing Kentucky, you have to hit on all cylinders," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury who is 4-12 against the Wildcats. “You've got to do some things better than you're capable of doing, and darn sure better than you've done them to have any kind of a chance at all.
"You hope Kentucky doesn't play their best. If Kentucky plays their best, I'm not so sure there's anyone, anywhere who has a chance against them.”
Most Important Player to Watch: Anthony Davis
Davis is a defensive monster and also the leading scorer for the Wildcats. He’s going to most likely be the No. 1 overall pick in the draft this spring and it’s worth it to catch such an elite player while he’s in his formative years.
Key Matchup: Frontcourt play
Arnett Moultrie (16.5 ppg, 10.8 rpg) is a surprise beast for the Bulldogs down low. He transferred from UTEP and has been destroying the competition in the paint.
However, he has his work cut out for him today against Kentucky.
It will be interesting to watch Moultrie going at Davis as both men could be seeing each other a lot when they are in the NBA.
