Although the FA has yet to approach Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp as a possible replacement for former England boss Fabio Capello, the public opinion seems to sway towards Redknapp's side.

In the past, the Spurs boss has admitted interest in the prospect of managing the England team.

I've always said if you're an Englishman, it would be hard to turn it down, because it's the pinnacle of your career.

With the likes of Wayne Rooney, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer all mentioning Harry Redknapp as the Italian's most likely successor, players like Jermain Defoe have expressed anxiety over the potential move.

Defoe stated:

Everyone wants Harry to be the next England manager. He'll never turn round and say 'no I don't want the job', because it's such a big job. We don't want Harry to leave because of what he's achieved.

However, it now seems the FA, the English people and players have been dealt a blow, as Redknapp has come out and stated that his focus remains with Tottenham and that he has not thought about England.

I've never thought about [the England job]. [The FA] will make whatever decision they want to make and hopefully it will be right for the country. Tottenham have been fantastic. It wouldn't be right to focus on anything else other than Tottenham.

Furthermore, Alan Pardew and Martin O'Neill have both expressed that they do not wish to succeed Fabio Capello.

England are short of options, and in my opinion the most plausible selection would be Roy Hodgson or Stuart Pearce.

What do you think?
