From a naked M&M to a car that has lights strong enough to kill a vampire, the commercials for Super Bowl XLVI were incredibly bizarre.

There wasn’t a single standout and there were just a few that passed the LOL test.

The aforementioned M&M commercial was silly, but not funny. The Audi Twilight-inspired one? Horrible.

The Acura commercial with Jerry Seinfeld had potential, but ultimately didn’t pan out. Jay Leno tends to have that effect.

A commercial that stands out is the GoDaddy ad with Danica Patrick and the Pussycat Dolls. It didn’t stand out for its creativity, but for the sheer shock value. Patrick is putting body paint on another woman and they urge everyone to check out the “uncut” part online. They’ve been pulling those tricks for years, but apparently it works.

One ad that I had sky-high hopes for that ultimately didn’t deliver was the Honda CRV ad with Matthew Broderick. In a tribute to the classic film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, he fakes sick and is able to parade around all day in his incredibly luxurious and affordable SUV. It’s nothing more than a reminder that Broderick is still an actor more than anything else. It didn’t make me laugh or tell me anything about the car.

Other than that it was a very effective commercial.

This is supposed to be the biggest day of the year for advertisers to flex their creative muscles. Instead, it left me hoping that 2013 brings about less singing and lame recreations of ‘80’s movies and more creativity.
