While it may not be on the same level as Janet Jackson’s infamous nipple-gate, the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show did provide us with another controversy that the censors didn’t catch.

While Madonna and her odd wardrobe selections and terrible lip-synching were the main feature, there were numerous others to make an appearance. From LMFAO and Nicki Minaj to Cee-Lo Green, there was plenty of star power. MIA, famous for the song “Paper Planes,” was one of the last performers to hit the stage and she proceeded to have a pretty forgettable act.

Until the very end.

Right before the NBC producers decided to cut away from her, she clearly raised her middle finger and flipped the bird to the vast majority of the free world.

It was very sneaky, and I’m sure the FCC is now going to schedule a Monday morning meeting demanding the heads of NBC officials. Will they now force live events to have a 30 second delay instead of just eight?

Twitter didn’t seem to catch the gaffe and the game has rolled on. So this isn’t going to be the lead story at the water cooler Monday morning, but it’s pretty hysterical that after so much controversy surrounding the halftime performance over the years, performers are still finding ways to tell the FCC suits to shove it.

So was MIA telling America to screw off or the FCC?

Probably a mixture of both.

Regardless, congrats to MIA for sneaking a fast one in for the entire world to watch…even if they didn’t notice it.
