UFC 143 Results: Josh Koscheck Defeats Mike Pierce by Split Decision

G DJun 4, 2018

It wasn't easy and it wasn't pretty but somehow, someway, Josh Koscheck always finds a way to win.

In a matchup that many predicted to be lopsided, Koscheck and Mike Pierce met in a 170-pound clash.

Koscheck appeared to have an added motivation as he circled the Octagon early looking to get revenge on Pierce for his weigh-in antics as he mocked the Pennsylvania product with a blonde wig.

But, it was Pierce who would steal the show early as he pushed Koscheck's back against the Octagon and began to land several elbows and strikes.

Surprisingly enough, it was also Pierce who held the advantage in the stand-up as he took away the opening round from Koscheck because of his well-rounded skill set.

Round 2 proved to be even closer than the opening round as Koscheck began to settle down and capitalize on opportunities in the stand-up.

But, Pierce's pace wouldn't slow even a hair as fans knew right then and there that Koscheck would have to not only win the second frame, but the final round as well.

After a fast end to the second round, the world awaited the third and final round.

Koscheck came out swinging but was taken down by his opponent as his hot streak appeared to be in jeopardy.

But as usual, "Kosh" found a way to battle back, eventually scoring a takedown of his own.

While Koscheck failed to impose any serious damage to Pierce, many believed it was enough to earn him the decision victory.

However, one judge didn't believe, so those in attendance at the Mandalay Bay Events Center saw Koscheck win a split decision.

The judge's scorecards read 29-28 Piece, 29-28 Koscheck and 29-28 Koscheck.
