UFC 143: Josh Koscheck Will Ride UFC 135 Momentum to Win over Mike Pierce
UFC veteran Josh Koscheck will ride the momentum he captured from last September's knockout victory over Matt Hughes at UFC 135 to take down fellow seasoned UFC fighter Mike Pierce.
Koscheck (16-5) laid out Hughes moments before the first-round horn for his first knockout since December 2008.
The UFC 143 weigh-ins also presented some added motivation for Koscheck, as Pierce (13-4) decided to sport a blond wig to mock Koscheck's distinct hairstyle. Check it out.
Both fighters have strong wrestling backgrounds and have legitimate UFC experience, but both are far from the coveted No. 1 contender spot in the welterweight division. Still, that won't stop them from trying to knock each others' heads off at UFC 143 in Las Vegas.
Pierce has six TKO victories to his name while Koscheck has five, but given both fighters' dominant wrestling pedigree and ability to take a fight the distance regardless of the quality of their opponents, fans should expect a lengthy bout.
Who will win at UFC 143?
Koscheck has the undeniable edge, however, considering he has experience against the sport's best, recently surviving five rounds with Georges St-Pierre, losing via unanimous decision at UFC 124's welterweight championship bout just over a year ago.
Aside from his ability to hang with the best though, Koscheck can submit opponents in a variety of ways as well. He's 5-1 in matches decided by submission, whereas Pierce has only survived one submission-decided fight in his career.
The advantage in the ground game goes to Koscheck and the knockout advantage goes to Koscheck, making him the certain favorite in the welterweight tussle.
It's not the main event but, again, the momentum behind Koscheck will lift him over the top at UFC 143.
