NBA Trade Rumors: Tyrus Thomas for Andray Blatche Would Be Ideal for Bobcats

Swapping Tyrus Thomas for Andray Blatche would appear to be trading one questionable player for another.

But if the Charlotte Bobcats can pull off the move for the Washington Wizards' big man, it could prove to be a big move down the line.

Blatche is currently sidelined for three to five weeks with a calf injury, but once he's healthy he'd be a good player for the Bobcats to add to their roster.

On Friday, ESPN's Marc Stein wrote:

Sources close to the situation say that the Wizards had been trying to engage Charlotte on a Blatche-for-Tyrus Thomas swap.

First thing's first: the very reason Blatche has become the source of many boo birds in DC is because he has questionable character and work ethic. Case in point—after averaging 16.8 points and 8.3 rebounds last season, Blatche has fallen off the face of the Earth this season, averaging 10.3 points and 7.1 rebounds, while shooting 38 percent from the floor.

I know what you're thinking, Bobcat fans: Why would we want to trade for a problem child?

Well, the answer is simple. You need rebounding and you need it badly.

The Bobcats have averaged 40.8 rebounds this season, 25th in the NBA. While Thomas is a decent rebounder, he's not as good a rebounder as Blatche, nor does he have the size.

Yes, Thomas is a good shot-blocker, and, yes, the Bobcats are still allowing opponents to shoot 47.3 percent from the field (ranked 28th). But Thomas has also been known as a mistake-prone defender throughout his career. He has the athletic ability to be a lockdown defender, but he's not consistent enough overall.

Would this be a good deal for the Bobcats?

I believe Blatche going to Charlotte would change his attitude. We've seen in the past where a change of scenery can revive players. Blatche is still just 25 years old and he obviously has the potential to be a difference maker.

Thomas, on the other hand, seems destined to be a bench player in the NBA. Yes, a valuable bench player, but a bench player nonetheless.

For the Wizards, it's becoming apparent that Blatche isn't going to work out. They would at least get a valuable contributor in Thomas.

As for the Bobcats, this seemingly meaningless deal could pay off in spades.
