Fight fans we are in the big state of Texas for the Top Rank Welcome to the Future fight card this weekend!
In the main event we have the undefeated WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31 KOs) defending his title against the hard-hitting knockout artist Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5-1, 46KOs).
As well as the co-main event with the pound-for-pound fast-rising star Nonito Donaire who is moving up to 122 lbs and looking to obtain the vacant WBO super bantamweight title by defeating former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Both fights will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing Saturday February 4th at 10:00 p.m. (ET)/7:00 p.m. (PT).
On Thursdays' press conference, Donaire and Vazquez had a heated face-to-face stare down where it even got physical with shoving and yelling mostly instigated and provoked by Vazquez.
Both fighters, including their wives, have taken to Twitter to express their ongoing beef mostly due to disrespect and trash talking coming from the Vazquez team.
Both Mexican champion Chavez Jr. as well as Puerto Rican former champion Vazquez Jr. are sons of fighting legends. Both Chavez Sr. and Vazquez Sr. were present to show their support for their sons fighting on Saturday.
The weigh-in will be on Friday at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET and it will be live streamed via Top Rank TV.
It was initially scheduled to be at the iconic historical landmark the Alamo but due to weather conditions it has been moved to the Alamodome. It is free and open to the public to attend.
KING J will be at the Alamodome ringside where all the action will be taking place so continue to check back to this live blog and make sure to follow him on Twitter for real-time photos/updates as well: @KingJ323
Unanimous Decision for the champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Crowd approves the decision.
Look you can probably argue about 4 rounds for the challenger Rubio but in all honesty we all know he needed a knock out to defeat the champion who happens to be son of a legend and again this is Texas home of the Texas decisions.
12th round:
All toe to toe action both swing wildly.
Neither lands the clean hard effective shots.
Another close round to the Champion.
Round 11:
Again before this round Chavez senior comes to say something to his son's corner?
This round is by far the most explosive bombs are being thrown by both fighters.
The crowd has woken up once again. It seems Rubio's is getting the best of these exchanges. Julio's throwing wildly and missing over the right shoulder of Rubio.
Rubio's round.
Round 10: Before this round begins Chavez Senior looks concerned and goes up to the ring to say something to Chavez Jr.?
Chavez is still coming in head first trying to push back Rubio but he's not landing much or even throwing much.
Rubio is at least countering and landing some even though they are partially blocked.
Chavez seems to be gassing out?
Rubio's round but not by much.
Round 9:
Same at the rest of the rounds Chavez is trying to walk Rubio down but he's not exactly landing much cleanly or effectively.
Rubio lands a good 1-2 to the face of Chavez but Chavez keeps pressing forward?
It seems that Rubio out punched and outlanded Chavez despite Chavez keep coming forward.
Rubio's round
Round 8:
Crowd is cheering loud for some reason but this is pretty much the same fight round after round no real damage or conviction thrown by either fighter?
Chavez is now opening up now trying to make something happen landing shots then all of a sudden the referee stops and warns him about his elbow?
Close round for Champion again.
Round 7:
Julio took the full time to get up from the stool? Is the DUI scandal getting the best of his stamina?
Julio lands a good 1-2 and the crowd cheers. Rubio lands one of his own back in return.
Close round again neither fighter is really landing the powerful clean shots to hurt and stop their opponent.
Champions round.
Round 6:
Rubio lands another low blow and the ref warns hard saying thats the 2nd time.
Rubio backs Chavez into the ropes, and Julio dances side to side to evade him.
Chavez goes for the stoppage in the final seconds of the round throwing hooks to the side of Rubio's head but Rubio lifts his hands up as to say you did not hurt me.
Champion's round
Round 5:
Chavez opening up again going straight to the body.
Chavez backs Rubio up into a corner and fires away, crowd cheers but not much damage is done or even landed cleanly.
Rubio stalks Chavez as he bounces backwards. Rubio throws a combo that's partially blocked Chavez answers back.
The replay shows Rubio landed a low blow way below the belt line of Chavez.
Chavez round
Round 4:
Chavez moving forward head first not throwing much at all.
Rubio landing but nothing dominant.
Rubio's round due to the lack of activity of Chavez.
Round 3:
Another close round again. It seems Chavez is content with just walking forward and eating Rubios shots. It seems they do not hurt him?
Chavez is answering back with the harder more effective shots.
Close round to the champion.
Round 2:
Another close round. It seems in the middle of the ring Rubio has the advantage against the ropes Chavez swings away and is more aggressive.
Close round goes to the champ again.
Round 1:
Rubio opens first. Chavez throws a wild right that lands.
Chavez backs Rubio into the ropes and throws to the head and body.
Rubio fires back straight down the middle on the belt line of Chavez and the crowd cheers.
Not much a dominating round for either fighter.
So we'll give it to the champion.
Chavez
Rubio and Chavez are now both in the ring.
Rubio received loud cheers for his entrance despite not being the son of a legend like Chavez.
Crowd is getting even louder as Michael Buffer is doing what he does best!
I'm currently in the media center right now here at the Alamodome. The Spanish translator has reserved a seat for Cuban 122lbs champion Rigodeux who has been calling out Donaire through the media ever since his last fight.
You can bet the house that he will make a big scene here tonight in the post fight conference. I'd even say 10 to 1 odds he will make a scene and call out Donaire.
I'm not sure if you guys saw at home but Donaire took his glove off and his handwraps were read with blood and he showed it to the crowd and they all cheered for him.
Nonito is talking with Larry Merchant right now crowds cheering too loud I can't quite hear the conversation. Microphone audio sucks too acoustics aren't that great here in the media center unfortunately.
Round 12:
Donaire dancing like Ali and firing shots Vazquez is waiting.
Donaire fires jab snaps Vazquez head back.
Donaire lands a low blow and says to the ref yeah I know my bad then Vazquez low blows him back and takes advantage of the situation.
Vazquez stalking Donaire dancing again until he's press back into the ropes.
All of a sudden Donaire unleashing a flurry out of no where while his back is against the ropes?
Donaire's round.
I have Donaire winning this easily. You could probably argue 2 or maybe 3 rounds for Vazquez mostly due to his jabs and that big right hand that Nonito never really had an answer for. But definitely Donaire.
Judges: Split Decision winner Nonito Donaire.
Really a split decision? Talk about another Texas BS judging??????????
Round 11:
Close round both fighters trade their shots.
Donaires more clean and harder.
They clash heads.
Donaire's round.
Round 10:
Vazquez presses Donaire into the ropes crowd goes wild.
Donaire is cleanly countering most of the shots.
Vazquez then lands that same big right snaps Donaires head back.
Donaires going for the TKO stoppage but then decides to dance and showboat instead of finishing him off.
Donaires round
Round 9:
Donaire lands a huge right that makes Vazquez buckle.
Big upper cut followed by a left sends Vazquez down. Legit knockdown. First one of the night.
10-8 Donaire
Round 8:
Vazquez with a big 1-2 up the middle it gets in, then he repeats again.
Donaire throws a big left that snaps Vazquez head backward in a odd manner?
Donaire with series of hooks to Vazquez face.
Donaire's now showboating doing a weird dance like a monkey or something and the crowd starts cheering him on.
Close round again but Donaire landed the harder shots.
Donaires round
Round 7:
Very close round both fighters trade toe to toe.
Vazquez throwing the jab nice and landing with no blocking from Donaire.
Was going to give this round to Vazquez based on his clean jabs but Donaire steals the round with a big combo to the head and body shot clean that sends Vazquez into the ropes.
Donaire round
Round 6:
Vazquez opening up more this round landing that big right once again and the crowd goes wild and cheers.
Vazquez is more confident and firing away. Nonito is studying him but not throwing much at all this round.
Nonito showboats as he evades punches but he seemed to give away this round?
Vazquez round.
Round 5:
Crowd is going oooh and aahhh as Donaires firing almost at will.
Donaire dances and Vazquez dances with him to attempt to avoid further shots.
Vazquez lands a big hard right as if to say you must respect me I'm still here.
He then lands another big right land sends Donaire backwards.
Close round but Donaire was far more active and.
We'll give it to Vazquez for those 2 big shots towards the end.
