The 15 Most Furious Females in Sports

1 of 16

“Toughness truly knows no gender anymore.”

    - Christine Brennan

During the early years of the Olympic Games, women weren't allowed to participate; in fact, they couldn't even spectate for most of the events.

As women gained more civil rights, they began to make major contributions to the sporting world, both as competitors and as spectators.

But up almost until the present time, they were expected to act "ladylike."

Along with dressing modestly, that meant no cursing, shouting, glaring, spitting, shoving, fighting. Plainly put, men could do what they wanted, but women couldn't.

Happy to say, that was another battle won.

Click on to see 15 females who have flaunted their fury to the world of sports.

15. Elsie Windes

2 of 16

American player Elsie Windes shoots and scores! Then celebrates/vents by clocking Canada’s team captain Krystina Alogbo in the face.

This happened at the 2009 World Championship water polo tournament in Rome.

Windes was ejected from the game, but the American team still won.

14. Angry Surfer Gal

3 of 16

Venting her wrath over the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, this surfer condemns former BP executive Tony Hayward and then looks forlornly out at the "dark, oily waves."

13. Plinette Pierson

4 of 16

In the first-ever WNBA fight, Plinette Pierson—then of Detroit—let Los Angeles' Candace Parker know she didn't appreciate her style of play.

Pierson literally walks right over Parker.

    A full team-on-team brawl ensues.

The incident, which happened in the last five seconds of a July 2008 game, has come to be known as Malice in the Palace II.

12. Red Sox Fan

5 of 16

On August 27, 2008, the Red Sox played the Yankees in the Bronx.

Some NYPD officers opted to escort out a seemingly rowdy Red Sox fan, but another fan got up in the officer's face to vent.

Three of N.Y.'s finest were needed to subdue the raging woman.

11. Maria Sharapova

6 of 16

Athlete before sex symbol, Sharapova isn't afraid to lob around the F-bomb.

In this video, she screams, "Up your [expletive] ass!" to the French crowd.

Two years earlier, at the Australian Open, she marched up to the chair judge and said, "Are you [expletive] kidding me?"

10. Mama Hawk at Fenway

7 of 16

Looks like the whole Yankees/Red Sox feud has become so intense that even the animal kingdom picked up on it.

As the video explains, a mama red-tailed hawk—residing at Fenway—attacked a young girl who was touring the stadium on a class trip.

No, the gal isn't a Yanks fan, but her name is Alexa Rodriguez.

    Yeah, A-Rod.

9. Serena Williams

8 of 16

"If I could, I would take this [expletive] ball and shove it down your [expletive] throat."

    - Serena Williams to a line judge after being called for a foot fault

2009 US Open, Flushing Meadows, NY

Williams was docked a point and lost the match to Kim Clijsters.

8. Forsaken Daughter

9 of 16

Dad takes his little girl out to a ball game.

    How sweet.

    How fun.

    How all-American.

A foul ball comes their way and the scenario sweetens; what better keepsake from a memorable family outing?

So Dad does what any idiot with zero parenting skills would do and drops his daughter to make the catch (which he didn't—loser!).

Realizing his ghastly gaffe, he reaches for baby girl. She's just a kid; she won't realize the magnitude of my stupidity.

Um, wrong. Watch baby girl shove the moron away.

7. Danica Patrick

10 of 16

Pounding fists, stamping feet, an arm flail, a cone kick...Danica was royally pissed off when she ran out of gas with three laps to go in the 2006 Firestone Indy 400.

Lots of "Princess Danica" and "someone call the whaaaaaambulace" jokes ensued.

6. Baseball Mom

11 of 16

Hey, this Taiwanese man deserves to be in the doghouse for weeks. Months even. No excuse for what he did—same for his American counterpart (No. 8 on this list).

But good Lord, this woman's glare went right through the guy, shot out of my screen (like Samara in The Ring), lasered a hole in my chest and melted part of the wall behind me.

5. Chris Cyborg Santos

12 of 16

At time code reading  4:14 in this friendly interview, reporter Aaron Tru makes the mistake of asking:

"...some people think that women have trouble finishing submissions; if you get Gina Carano in a choke hold, how long is it going to take you to put her to sleep?"

Then, either tired of all the questions via a translator, or wanting to prove that women do not in fact have any trouble whatsoever finishing submissions, Chris goes cyborg on Aaron.

    All in good fun, right?

4. Elizabeth Lambert

13 of 16

In this fall 2009 video that went viral worldwide, Elizabeth Lambert—then a junior defender for the University of New Mexico Lobos—takes an elbow to the rib and responds with a punch to the back.

In another incident, she grabs up the ponytail of BYU player Kassidy Shumway and viciously yanks her to the ground.

Lambert said this about the incident:

"I definitely feel because I am a female, it did bring about a lot more attention than if a male were to do it. It's more expected for men to go out there and be rough. The female, we're still looked at as, 'Oh, we kick the ball around and score a goal.'"

3. Milka Duno

14 of 16

At a July 2008 practice run for the Honda Indy 200, Patrick marched over to competitor Milka Duno's pit area and confronted her about a piece of driving.

Duno was having none of it. She ordered Patrick away and snapped a towel in her face.

2. Randy Orton Fan

15 of 16

On the November 22nd, 2010 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw, Mike Mizanin (The Miz) took down Randy Orton.

Cameras were panning through the crowd for fan reactions when the broadcast suddenly cut to terrifying footage from The Exorcist. Or had it?

No, it was just nine-year-old Cayley, Randy Orton fan extraordinaire—now forever to be dubbed "Miz Girl" and "Scowly."

When interviewed later on what her thoughts had been at the time she made the face, her answer was:

    "That, wow, wrestling’s gone downhill!"

1. Serena Williams (Episode 2)

16 of 16

Though it wasn't scripted by a Hollywood screenwriter, Serena's most excellent 2011 US Open rant against the chair umpire already ranks with some of the silver screen's greatest monologues (think Nicholson's "You can't handle the truth," Dinero's "You talkin' to me?" and Samuel Jackson's "Ezekiel 25:17).

Here's the transcript in its full genius glory:

"If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way, because you're out of control. You're out of control. You're totally out of control, you're a hater, and you're unattractive inside. Who would do such a thing? And I never complain. Wow. What a loser...We're in America last I checked. Can I get a water, or am I gonna get violated for a water? Really, don't even look at me! I promise you, don't look at me, 'cause I am not the one. Don't look my way."

     - Serena Williams
