Royal Rumble 2012: Ranking the Top 4 Superstars to Win the Rumble

0 of 5

Predicting the Royal Rumble winner is never really an easy thing to do, especially when there are possibilities of surprise entrants.

Nonetheless, I have ranked the top four superstars whom I feel have the best odds of winning this Sunday and moving on to WrestleMania 28 for a chance to compete for a World Championship.

4. Sheamus

1 of 5

The Celtic Warrior is here simply because he is on the top of my list of dark-horse picks to win the Rumble.

Sheamus has dominated ever since moving to the blue brand. He was featured prominently for quite some time, going as far as having a 14-match televised winning streak in the latter part of 2011.

Since then however, Sheamus really hasn’t made much noise.

Sheamus is the biggest babyface on SmackDown who has yet to get involved in the world title picture.

A win this Sunday at the Rumble would certainly give the Celtic Warrior that opportunity.

Many are assuming this will be Sheamus’s year and a win at the Rumble followed by a high profile match at WrestleMania would go a long ways for the Irishman’s career.

3. Randy Orton

2 of 5

You’re probably thinking why on earth I have the Viper ranked third when he should in all likelihood be considered the favorite.

    Allow me to explain…

History shows that for some reason or another, WWE always seems to go against the hometown guy when it comes to the Royal Rumble. (See John Cena in 2011 and Shawn Michaels in 2007).

Furthermore, WWE has opted to already announce Orton as a participant in this year’s match as opposed to having him maintain a low profile and be a surprise entrant.

Typically, for mega stars like Orton, a surprise return at the Rumble usually guarantees that particular superstar victory. (See Edge and John Cena).

Since Orton has already appeared on SmackDown, the surprise factor is gone and his chances of winning the Rumble takes a small dip as a result.

2. Wade Barrett

3 of 5

Ever since the Barrett Barrage began, Wade Barrett has brought himself back into relevancy by becoming arguably one of WWE’s hottest superstars.

Barrett has picked up several victories as of late, including a key victory for a team he captained at Survivor Series to defeat Randy Orton.

To say that the Bare Knuckle Brawler has had quite the last few months is a huge understatement.

Creative really seems to be behind Barrett this time around and the results are starting to show.

Barrett is on his way to redemption and picking up a win at the Royal Rumble, in Randy Orton’s hometown nonetheless, would be a major step towards becoming the first ever English-Born World Champion.

1. Chris Jericho

4 of 5

For the first time ever, Chris Jericho is actually considered a favorite to win the Royal Rumble.

Ever since Jericho made his return to WWE, he has done a terrific job of creating a certain mystique around his character.

The silent but deadly Jericho promised everyone that this Sunday will be the end of the world as we know it.

Whatever that means remains to be seen as people can only continue to speculate.

If the rumors of a Jericho/Punk match at WrestleMania prove to be true, then it makes the most sense for Jericho to finally add winning the Royal Rumble to his already outstanding list of accomplishments.

On a side note, how cool would it be for Jericho to show up and manage to win the Rumble without having to actually eliminate a single person?

Ehh, probably wishful thinking on my part…

The End!

    Well there you have it.

Expect these four superstars to have a great showing this Sunday.

Until then, let me know who you think will win.
