Live FA Cup Fourth Round football from Anfield
Hello and welcome to another round of live football from England with me, Karl Matchett.
Today, we have a monster FA Cup clash for you as Liverpool host rivals Manchester United at home in the fourth round.
United are certainly taking the difficult route through the domestic cup competition this season after they beat neighbours Manchester City 3-2 in the third round ahead of this trip to Anfield.
Liverpool, on the other hand, had a straight-forward home draw in the previous round, beating Oldham Athletic by a flattering 5-1 scoreline.
This game promises to be one of the matches of the season as the rivalry between the two sets of supporters are perhaps more tense than ever before.
Stay right here for all the best buildup, in-game action and postmatch reaction and analysis—and of course, don't forget to get involved by leaving your comments below!
That's it for the live text then, thanks very much for joining me during the game and thanks as ever for your comments in the build-up and during the match.
Plenty of reaction still to come of course—get yourself over to my article timeline here on Bleacher Report for all the best post match analysis.
I'll be back next week with more top action and live commentary from the English Premier League—until then, take care and see you soon.
Liverpool go into the fifth round draw for the FA Cup, Manchester United go out—and both teams have a very busy and important month ahead of them. We'll have everything you need to cover your favourite side right here on Bleacher Report.
Man of the Match?
Well, there were several contenders. Martin Kelly and Martin Skrtel were immense for Liverpool in defence, while Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs were consistent and careful in possession for United.
Antonio Valencia caused the most problems for the away team with his forays down the right flank—but I'm going to award Martin Skrtel the award for his consistency and covering. Good dual all game long between the Slovakian defender and Danny Welbeck, which ultimately the Liverpool defender has come out on top of.
So what do we make of that finish?!
United were very strong in the first half and, though they created little to nothing, dominated the ball and stopped Liverpool playing at all.
Liverpool's game changed entirely with Kenny Dalglish's three quick-fire substitutions and ended the game far stronger—and could have added to their late winning goal.
Full time at Anfield:
Liverpool 2 Manchester United 1
Liverpool beat both Manchester sides in the space of three days after Dirk Kuyt's late winner sends out last season's semifinalists.
The Kop is in full voice now and King Kenny is smiling—United will have to turn their full attention to improving their second place in the Premier League.
Nope, Martin Kelly intercepts and clears the ball.
92 mins
Last seconds of the game, United throw near their own penalty box. Will they get the ball forward to create a last chance?
91 mins
Less than one hundred seconds to go at Anfield, and Liverpool are bouncing now. Carroll holds the ball up by the corner flag and wins a succession of throw ins.
Three minutes of time to be added on.
Should be all over.
Andy Carroll rises brilliantly at the far post and directs a header onto the crossbar from a narrow angle—and Dirk Kuyt, on the rebound, stabs wide of goal from just six yards out. Liverpool should be 3-1 ahead.
Dimitar Berbatov comes on for Ryan Giggs with United needing a quick reply.
How about that!!
Andy Carroll gets up above Evans and flicks on Reina's long pass and Dirk Kuyt bursts into the penalty area pass Patrice Evra to smash a low, first-time effort past de Gea and into the Kop net to put Liverpool ahead.
GOALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Liverpool 2 Manchester United 1
Dirk Kuyt 87 mins
86 mins
Final minutes of the game now, is there a winner in this tie?
If there are no further goals the replay will be at Old Trafford in two weeks time.
85 mins
Liverpool attempting to pass their way through the United defence now but the blue-and-black shirts are tightly packed.
Reina has to come out of his box soon after and head clear as Hernandez looked to get onto a loose ball, and Welbeck's attempted shot from the rebound is weak and off target.
83 mins
Rafael, already on a yellow card, trips Andy Carroll needlessly in the centre circle. Free kick, but nothing more.
81 mins
Downing again skips free past Rafael down the left and delivers a better cross, though it is slightly behind Dirk Kuyt, who has to angle his header back in the opposite direction, and it bounces wide of the far post.
Up the other end, Welbeck cannot connect well enough with a shot and Reina isn't troubled in the slightest by his effort.
