Since joining Chelsea from Liverpool in 2011, El Nino has not had the best of times.

With a far from impressive scoring record—and at times squandering goalscoring opportunities that are literally harder to miss—he has done little to justify his £50 million transfer fee.

Could Torres ever regain his form, and return to his brilliant best? There are reasons to suggest he can, and there are arguments to say that he has just lost it entirely.

Here is a list of some of the factors that could play a part in Torres regaining his form and repaying all the fans who have put faith in him.

African Cup of Nations

Torres will want Ivory Coast to get as far as possible in this year's African Cup of Nations.

With Didier Drogba away on international duty, Torres will be able to get a run in the first team, without the competition from Drogba cutting into his playing time.

If Torres can get a goal and a run of impressive performances while Drogba is away, then he may be able to stamp his claim as Chelsea's main striker.

The Fans

A lot of fans would have ran out of patience by now.

But the Chelsea fans have remained firmly behind Torres.

He gets a warm reception every time he is substituted on or off, and his name is cheered by everyone when he is playing well.

If the fans remain on his side, this will do wonders for his confidence, and he can feel more comfortable at the club.

Team Support

In times like these, it is easy to get frustrated at a player who has been misfiring to the extent that Torres has.

Heads can drop, and players can begin to lose patience.

It is good to see that this hasn't happened at Chelsea. The whole team are behind Torres, as is apparent in celebrations, and notably, when David Luiz prayed with him before a game.

With his teammates behind him, Torres will feel more settled and part of the club.

This will hopefully help him return to his best.

A New Playmaker?

There have been reports in various papers that Chelsea are in the market for an attack-minded midfielder.

Players such as Eden Hazard, Milos Krasic and Kaka have been mentioned.

These reports will be music to Fernando Torres' ears.

Although he has been misfiring in front of goal, he hasn't had the best of service from the Chelsea midfield.

The emergence of Mata has helped, but if there could be another player with skills in providing passes to strikers, then this could help Torres find the net more often.

Body Language

When Torres first started his Chelsea career, his demeanour was one of someone who didn't want to be at the club.

He looked lethargic, uninterested and almost defeated when he was on the pitch.

In recent performances, however, he has looked a lot sharper and looks to be playing with more passion.

If he can keep this up and get that elusive goal he has been searching for, then maybe, just maybe, we'll see the Torres of old make an appearance.

£50 Million

When Chelsea forked out £50 million to secure Torres' services in January of last year, excitement surrounded Stamford Bridge.

Although the price seemed steep, signing a striker of his calibre could have helped Chelsea grab success in the 2010-2011 campaign.

As we all know, this didn't happen, and Torres is now left with the pressure of living up to his £50 million price tag.

He may never live up this huge fee, but it will make the club more reluctant to sell him and take a huge loss.

This buys Torres some time to improve and start performing like a £50-million striker should.

Recent Performances

During last season and the early stages of this season, it seemed as if Torres was afraid of the goal.

He looked reluctant to shoot and would often make an unnecessary pass instead of going for goal, perhaps in fear of missing the target.

This is obviously not a good attitude to have, especially when a club has just spent £50 million in the hope you can find the net.

It looks as if Torres has shaken this fear of shooting, and in recent games, he has looked a lot more hungry for goals when he is in and around the box.

Being at Stamford Bridge when Torres performed his acrobatic bicycle-kick assist against Sunderland, it was clear to see he is trying his hardest to prove his worth and he certainly wants goals.

Class Is Permanent

Talent doesn't just disappear, which would mean that Torres is just going through an extended run of poor form.

Still a player with many years left, his class is sure to return, and with this class will come impressive performances.

He needs a run of games, and most importantly a goal, and when his confidence returns, so will his form.
