Top 25 Philadelphia Phillies Fan Videos

Greg PintoJan 24, 2012

This part of the off-season can be a bit of a tease for baseball fans across the country. After all, you will spend a countless number of days counting down until Opening Day or listening to ball scribes tell you that Spring Training is "right around the corner."

Well, you can keep telling yourself that, but pitchers and catchers won't be heading to Florida or Arizona any faster if you do. Sure, that date may be just a couple of weeks away, but at the end of January, with snow and ice on the ground and nothing better to do, it still feels like Spring Training is light years away.

How about a better way to occupy your time?

The Internet is a marvelous thing, but I'll spare you the lengthy, colorful explanation as to why and get right down to the most simple fact: It's entertaining.

So as I sat in my chair, hot cop of coffee in hand and watching the snow fall to the ground, I longed for Spring Training. I took to the Internet to try and remind myself that Clearwater, Florida was "right around the corner" for the Phillies, but instead, stumbled upon something much more entertaining than crossing days off of the calendar: Fan videos.

Now that the Phillies are once again a team that contends year in and year out, the fan base is the life force behind this franchise, and boy, are you guys entertaining. In this slideshow, I've assembled a host of videos either about, filmed by, or including the fans.

You'll laugh, you'll cry... Okay, you probably won't cry unless you're overly emotional, but I promise that you'll find some of these excellent fan videos, some humorous, some inspiring, certainly entertaining.

For up to the minute Phillies' information, check out Greg's blog: The Phillies Phactor.

The Tomamock

1 of 25

Baseball is a sport. Sports draw out the spirit of competition, and any time there is a competition between heated rivals, the game is bound to get a lot more interesting.

Over the last couple of seasons, the Phillies and Atlanta Braves have battled each other for the NL East's crown, and with the way the 2011 season ended for the Braves, things are sure become even more interesting in 2012.

That's why you can expect to see a lot more of the "Tomamock." Of course, this video was taken by a fan, and the "Tomahawk Chop" is a beloved Braves' tradition—except when they're on the road in Philadelphia.

Then it's material for mocking a heated rival.

Who Put That Row of Seats There?

2 of 25

Swing and a long drive, and... Watch out for that row of seats!

Listen, there is certainly nothing wrong with having a nice cold beer on a hot summer day while taking in a Phillies game. It's an American pastime. However, there is something wrong with having twelve cold ones and forgetting that there is a row of seats in front of you.

So dear gentleman in the camouflage fishing hat: You should be very thankful for those good people in the row in front of you for buying tickets to the game. They broke your fall and gave us a reason to giggle, but this could have been a terrible story.

Remember folks, on a serious note, drink responsibly.

Hold onto Your Hats

3 of 25

Sometimes, though morally questionable, it is just plain out fun to laugh at other peoples' misfortunes, and when Mother Nature wants to play a practical joke on someone, we should just watch and laugh.

The 2011 season was full of surprises for the Phillies, including a summer of surprisingly strong weather patterns, including this one, which literally blew that poor man's hat right off his head in comical fashion.

Funny Coat Guy

4 of 25

You know those videos that you come across from time to time, and you find yourself sitting at your computer wondering, "Why am I even watching this?" Well, the first time I saw this one, that was my thought exactly.

The more you watch this video, however, the funnier it gets. You will find yourself giggling like a school girl in no time.

I give you, Funny Coat Guy.

Man Down!

5 of 25

I'm not sure if being on SportsCenter's "Not Top 10" is an achievement or a failure, but one way or another, the Phillies' bat boy managed to do something that very few people get to do in their lifetimes, even if that thing is humiliating yourself in front of a national television audience.

I know that this isn't technically a fan video, but between the bat boy's reaction and Shane Victorino's reaction, this video is priceless.

Slow down, man! The bat isn't going anywhere.

This Cab Is Leaving a Passenger Behind

6 of 25

There are some things in life that are inherently stupid, and cannot be described as anything but stupid.

Now I'm not necessarily calling this guy stupid, but one would imagine that he could have made better choices this night. Let's break this down. The Phillies are going back to the World Series. We understand that you're excited.

But that cab isn't parked. It's stopped at a red light.

Eventually, the cab driver is going to pull away and you're going to eat asphalt. Not the wisest of decisions by any stretch of the imagination.

Dizzy Guy Plays Dizzy Bat

7 of 25

I don't really understand the concept of dizzy bat, or understand what makes it fun. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there is only one possible outcome in this game, and it hurts a lot.

The concept of the game (or whatever dizzy bat is) is apparently to chug a whole can of beer (which in this video, is conveniently contained in the bat,) spin around ten times with the bat on the ground and your forehead on the bat, and then try and hit the can.

Needless to say, this guy should have called it quits long before dizzy bat, but if your goal was to be filmed so that hundreds of people may laugh at your misfortune on YouTube, well played sir.

Captain Beer Vendor

8 of 25

I've been to a number of Phillies' games in my day, and I am actually able to say that I have seen this man in person before. I thought he was unique then, but watching him hawk beer on YouTube put everything into perspective, and now, I can't stop laughing at this guy.

Let's be honest for a second: Selling beer at a baseball game is easier than it sounds. Sure, baseball and beer go hand in hand, but this guy has competition. There are hundreds of employees in Citizens Bank Park trying to sell you beer, so what makes this guy special?

Well, he tries to sell beer like a pirate.

With a unique beer call and complete with little parrot on the brim of his cap, this vendor is certainly hard to miss.

Don't Assault the President!

9 of 25

With Washington D.C. just a couple of hours away from Philadelphia, many fans have journeyed to Nationals Park in the last couple of seasons to watching the Phillies do battle with the division rival Washington Nationals, and if you land the right seats, you can get a bird's eye view of the Presidents Race, like the guy in this video did.

While I do not condone punching a President in any way, shape, or form, maybe this guy was just trying to help Teddy Roosevelt get a win.

The man deserves to win a race!

Trees, Fireworks, and Beer... Oh My.

10 of 25

Want to see a guy trying to climb a tree that he can't even get his arms around, and then watch people shoot fireworks at him? Of course you do!

I'm all about celebrations and having a good time, but what kind of evil person enjoys shooting fireworks at a man who is already struggling to climb a tree in the middle of a mass of people? He's suffered enough!

Want to see a man flap his arms like a bird on top of a light pole? Of course you do!

Though the video cuts off before disaster strikes, I'm sure that didn't end well.

The jewel of this video comes after the fan confessing his love to the entire Phillies' roster, however. Yet another fan takes his talent to the top of the light pole, where other fans pelt him with cups of beer. It's pretty funny stuff.

Close Encounters of the Phanatic Kind

11 of 25

How about a video regarding the Phillies' biggest fan, the Phillie Phanatic?

Personally, I've never understood why people feel the need to dress up like the Phanatic in the middle of the summer. You're probably wearing three layers of clothing, covered from head to toe in green fuzz, and trapped inside of a cardboard box for a head.

Anyway, the Phanatic certainly appreciates his supporters, so I've always wondered, what exactly would  that moment be like when the Phanatics meet?

Now, we have video proof of the answer.

Muff

12 of 25

Okay, so this video doesn't really involve the fans, but it's just too funny not to post.

Anyone who is familiar with the Phillies and their broadcast team knows that the guys like to poke fun at each other a little bit, and Gary Matthews has referred to Chris Wheeler as "Muff"—short for the endearing term, Muffin—on numerous occasions.

Leave it to Chase Utley to put his underrated sense of humor to the test again, this time, at the expense of Wheels.

Just the Phanatic Being Awesome, as Usual

13 of 25

You don't just wake up one morning as the best mascot in sports. Something like this takes years of training, perfecting your sense of humor, and most importantly, finding the perfect time to capitalize on the misfortune of other people.

But that's why the Phanatic is the best in the world at what he does.

In this video, that means he is the best at doing, well, nothing. He's just sitting back, taking in the game, when all of the sudden, an opportunity arises, and he scares the bejeezus out of that poor woman in the row in front of him.

This Guy Is Stoked About the Fightins

14 of 25

Phillies fans are a passionate group of individuals, and this fan certainly isn't lacking any passion. With the postseason in full swing yet again in Philadelphia, FOX News caught up with a lively fan to get his feelings on the Phillies.

Needless to say, he was feeling stoked. You have to love the death stare and his forcefulness about the "Fightins." The best part is that this video gets funnier every time you watch it.

Pre-Game Warm-Ups, or Something Like That

15 of 25

Even the Phillie Phanatic has to limber up before the game. We can't have the best mascot in the world pull a muscle!

This is one of the Phanatic's pre-game rituals at Citizens Bank Park, and the fans and opposing players get a kick out of it. You have to admit, the Phanatic is pretty flexible for not being able to see over his stomach!

This is a routine that the Phanatic does at the beginning of every game, but I chose this video for two reasons. The first is the Phanatic's jog. That is quality humor. The second is a Hunter Pence cameo! More from these two in a bit.

Come on Blue!

16 of 25

We've all gotten a little upset with the umpires before. After all, when something bad happens to your team or a call doesn't go your way, blaming the umpire is easy!

Anyone who is familiar with the Phillie Phanatic and all of his shenanigans knows that he feels the same way. The boys in blue are the butt of many a joke by the Phanatic, and this routine is no different.

Let's get this game underway already!

Side Note: The part where he bangs his head against the ground forces me to laugh uncontrollably.

A P-Orr-K Race for the Ages

17 of 25

Want to see Phillies' infielder Pete Orr almost get trampled by racing sausages in Milwaukee, only to avoid them all by using a Matrix-like maneuver? Of course you do!

This one's not a fan video, but it never gets old.

Check out Orr's deer-in-the-headlights type reaction when he sees the fake pork products approaching, only to make himself as thin as possible and only slightly clip the Hot Dog.

It sure beats being beat by Randall Simon though.

Doink

18 of 25

Warning: This video may make you cringe.

When the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, Broad Street erupted in celebration. In fact, it was kind of like a riot. On one side of the street, you could see fans celebrating the organization's second World Series title, and on the other, there was a car being flipped. That's neither here nor there.

Some fans got a little carried away that night, including this guy, who decided that it would be a good idea to climb a light pole. In hindsight, I'm sure he'd like a do-over, because the rowdy fans below decided to throw their beverages at him, and one fan with amazing aim hit him right in the dome with what looks like a 40 oz. glass bottle. Ouch.

One YouTube commentor made an interesting observation. That is not a sturdy light pole. What if the person who threw the bottle was actually a super hero in disguise, saving the tens of people below from a falling light pole?

The world may never know.

Matt Diaz Isn't a Fan of Red Man

19 of 25

It seems like that, out of everyone who has ever tried running on to the field, the only person who has ever been successful is the Phillie Phanatic, and I don't think that's a coincidence.

Take Red Man here, for example. He jumped on to the field and was running circles around the security guards. He was going to get away with it!

That is, until Atlanta Braves' outfielder Matt Diaz uses his ninja stealth to sneak up on him and trip him, slowing him down enough for a security guard to finally tackle him.

Running on to the field just never works. It must be fate.

Pump It Up!

20 of 25

Somebody get this kid a job!

If I've learned anything from my countless hours surfing the web, it's that the Internet loves two things above and beyond anything else: Kittens and babies. So while I was unable to find a video of a feline Phillies' fan, I did find this awesome video of this kid named Will.

The date is October 31, 2008. The location is Broad Street. The fans have lined both sides of the busy street to wait for their beloved Phillies to celebrate their World Series victory, and Will is on the scene to make sure this party gets started the right way.

The One-Handed Grab

21 of 25

Catching a baseball isn't an easy thing to do. Sure, MLB players make it look easy, but to get it right every time at that level takes years of training and hard work.

So needless to say, the catch that this man makes is incredible.

Just put yourself in his shoes. You're just walking back to your seat, carrying your concessions in one hand, just strolling along, when all of the sudden... A foul ball is heading straight towards you.

This, is what separates the boys, from the men.

Instead of jumping out of the way and spilling his snacks all over the place, this guy nonchalantly makes a one-handed grab before hoisting his new prize over his head for the rest of the fans to enjoy.

That's how it's done.

We're Going Streaking!

22 of 25

Finally, in the last video of the Phillies' famous mascot, the Phanatic goes streaking!

I've rationalized this video in this way: It takes a real moron to run out onto the field. As we'll see in just a moment, that never ends well. On the other hand, it takes a genius to turn an act that has been a bane for the Phillies in recent seasons into mid-inning enjoyment, something that the Phanatic does best.

The best part of this video is the second cameo by Hunter Pence! I'm not sure what exactly was going through his mind at the moment, but I'm sure it was something like, "Forget warm-ups! The Phanatic is streaking!"

Don't Taze Me Bro

23 of 25

Nine times out of ten, when a fan runs onto the field, he gets chased around a bit, tackled, and then sent to jail.

This fan, however, kicked up quite a bit of controversy. Jumping on to the field is always a losing battle, but this kid found out that running on to the field can be a bit shocking. (Zing!)

After giving the security guards a run for their money, a police officer resorted to using a Taser on the kid, much to the displeasure of the fans in attendance who are fans of a good chase.

So what do you think? Is it okay to use a Taser in this type of situation?

Now I Have a Foul Ball, Now I Don't

24 of 25

Talk about having a great day. This guy is at a Phillies game, the team is winning by a score of five to zero, and to put the cherry on top, he just caught a foul ball. Now, the only thing to is to cherish the moment with his daughter. (Remember, the Internet loves babies.)

Taking the foul ball into her hands for a brief moment, the little girl analyzes the baseball for a moment before gracefully... Tossing it over the railing.

It's a great moment, and the video would proceed to go viral, but please, someone tell Gary Matthews that he doesn't have to analyze everything.

Fans React to the News of Osama Bin Laden's Death

25 of 25

Sometimes, it is important to remember that, in the grand scheme of things, baseball is just a sport, and this video really puts that into perspective.

After years of turmoil, the United States of America had finally been able to confirm the death of Osama Bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world.

As the Phillies and New York Mets battled into extra innings, news of Bin Laden's death spread through Citizens Bank Park like a wildfire. On this day, Phillies' fans were more than just fans. They were citizens of the USA.

With knowledge of the situation becoming widely known, the fans forgot about baseball for a moment, and chants of, "USA. USA. USA," rang out through the ballpark.

This truly was an iconic moment.
