Top 5 Reasons to Support WWE and SOPA
Stop Online Piracy Act.
According to this report, WWE, UFC and NBCUniversal are some of the 354 major companies supporting the bill. In WWE's case, they have supported the act since September 2011.
As in most huge issues, WWE is right. UFC is right (don't forget them!). Every other company supporting this bill is correct.
Honestly, I do not expect this bill to pass. It just doesn't seem like it has the support it should. However, here are five reasons why I am with WWE.
5. The Internet Will Continue
1 of 5"The Internet, as we know it, will end!"
"How will I go on with my life?"
Seriously, everything will be fine. The doom and gloom of this bill has been 100 percent exaggerated. Yes, it will be different in picking and choosing what you do post or search for. However, the world of online will go on...
4. WWE Is a Business
2 of 5Raise your hand if you are excited for the Royal Rumble next weekend.
Keep your hand raised if you are going to pay $50 to purchase it...
Put your hand back up if you will still view it "somehow" on the Internet.
See my point?
WWE is well within their rights to want to maximize as much profit as possible. Same with UFC. They know what is going on during their PPV/TV events.
3. WWE Network Starting Up
3 of 5I have discussed this before, but I will repeat it again.
The WWE Network launching will be a major turning point in this industry—good or bad. The entire landscape of the business is about to change heading into 2013. This year is huge for WWE.
Back to my previous point, the company obviously wants this network to get off to a great start. If anything is in its way (stealing content, copyrights, etc.), this could be a disaster for WWE. Not only them, but the future of the business is on the line here.
No joke. The WWE Network being successful means more than most realize.
2. PPV Buyrates Declining
4 of 5Would WWE be supporting this bill if their business was booming? Probably not.
If WWE was selling out 20,000 seats every night and breaking records each week, would they be supporting this bill? Probably not.
The fact is WWE PPV buyrates have been declining for a while now. What better way than to eliminate every illegal opportunity? Make the fans actually pay for the product.
You want to see John Cena and CM Punk wrestle in a classic? You want to prove Zack Ryder can "draw" on PPV? Show them...
1. It Is the Right Thing to Do
5 of 5Who wants a brand-new car? Well, it is too expensive to pay for, and they won't drop the prices.
Sound familiar? WWE has PPV events, but fans say they are too expensive and can't pay the fee...
"Well, I guess I will just steal it then! Yeah, as long as I don't get caught, that makes it okay to do!"
No.
Sorry folks, but this bill is just doing the right thing. We saw it years ago with the music industry, and it is happening again. The fact is many people online are stealing content daily—breaking copyright laws on a regular basis and getting away with money they don't deserve, which comes out of the pockets of businesses.
Passing this bill is just doing the right thing.
I support WWE and SOPA!
Do you?
