WWE Rumors: Rey Mysterio, the Rock, John Cena and Thursday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsFeatured ColumnistJanuary 19, 2012

One of the great things about the Royal Rumble is all the information, and misinformation, that you hear from everywhere. We have gotten so accustomed to seeing surprises at this event that it is the perfect show for fans and the Internet.

A lot of what we hear is garbage, but the speculation is what keeps us interested. Even when the shows leading up to the event are trash, hope returns with all of the talk about what could be.

We have plenty of news and rumors on the Rumble, as well as news on another pretty big match that takes place at WrestleMania.

The best part of the Royal Rumble are all of the surprises that may happen, and fans love speculating about what they might be. It turns out that Mysterio might be gracing us with his presence at the show, if you want to believe the Johnny Dare Morning Show.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Should we expect to see him?

Our Take: Considering how serious his knee injuries were before he left, it would be a surprise to see him back this soon. That said, the Rumble is the perfect match, because he doesn't have to do much in the ring.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Masked Superstars

Mysterio has always been a fascinating WWE character, because he is over a lot more than his push suggests he should be. His career is winding down, so this could be his last chance to get in a Rumble match.

Is Rey Mysterio Returning At The Rumble? (Wrestle Zone)

Yesterday, we gave you an update on the Rock's return to Raw on March 26. Now, we know that WWE is going to be heating up immediately after the Elimination Chamber show is done, which makes sense.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Will Rock show up on television before then?

Our Take: It would be a surprise at this point. The Rumble is just one week away, and he isn't going to do anything leading up to that. Elimination Chamber could use some help, but Rock won't be the one giving it to WWE.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 One-Sided Feuds

Very seldom does another performer make John Cena look like a goober, because he does that all on his own, but he has taken about 1,000 shots to the gut in his verbal battles with the Rock on television.

Daniel Bryan has been getting good matches out Big Show recently, but during a dark match after SmackDown this week, Show fell wrong and injured his back.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How long is Show going to be out?

Our Take: The severity of the injury is not known at this time. My best guess would be for WWE to finalize a triple match between Bryan, Henry and Show to be made for the Rumble. If he is seriously injured, they will run an angle on that show to keep him out long enough to recover.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Stretcher Jobs

Big Show has been a key part of the Bryan heel turn, so to lose him at this point would be unfortunate. At least WWE has set the wheels in motion to get Bryan over more as a villain, but the roster really can't afford to lose someone like Show for any length of time right now.

Speaking of the Royal Rumble and surprises, Christian is also making his way back from an injury and is expected to return anytime now. He would be a perfect candidate to come back for this match.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What are the odds that he will show up?

Our Take: Pretty good. There are some conflicting reports about just how healthy he is, but he can take it easy in the match before getting thrown out after just a few minutes back.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5

As strong as SmackDown has been in recent weeks, it will get even better with the return of Christian. He is going to be a vital part of that show this year because new stars are going to emerge, and he will be a stepping stone on their way up thanks to his in-ring ability.

As if losing the United States Championship wasn't hard enough for poor Zack Ryder, now he is trying to type coherent sentences and updates on the Z! True Long Island series on Twitter with no success.

Question on Everybody's Mind: So what does that mean?

Our Take: Perhaps Ryder is so afraid of Kane that he has no control over what his fingers type. Either that, or he is hanging out with Evan Bourne, smoking those fake, funny cigarettes.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Long Island Iced Teas

Do we have any idea what kind of character Ryder is? Is he supposed to be a star or a dork? The booking suggests he is the latter, yet he is treated like the former by the live crowds. This certainly adds an aura of intrigue to him, or he is just dumb.
