WWE News: The Latest on Randy Savage Being Inducted into the Hall of Fame

Imaan JalaliJan 14, 2012

Since his untimely death in May 2011, the memories of Randy Savage have been preserved by a myriad of publications—including magazines like Time, People and Sports Illustrated.

And although the two-time World Wrestling Federation champion was briefly remembered in a three-minute video package on the Monday Night RAW after his passing, there has been little subsequent mention of the "Macho Man" on WWE TV. Curiously, not even CM Punk's top-rope elbow homage has been acknowledged by the announcers.

Still, wrestling critics and fans alike have hoped to see the idiosyncratic icon finally get into the WWE Hall of Fame on the night prior to WrestleMania 28, but according to WrestleNewz.com, that is likely not happening.

Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, who appeared on a recent podcast, explained how he hasn't heard a peep from Vince McMahon or any WWE executive at all—before or after the colorful superstar's ill-fated heart attack.

One complication preventing an induction is that Savage was against being enshrined as an individual performer. Instead, he wanted the entire Poffo family—including his brother Lanny and father Angelo—to go in as a group a la the Von Erichs.

It's possible that the WWE believes only Savage is worthy of being inducted, which may be the cause for the holdup.

However, if there is no objection to the Poffo clan being inducted, then it possibly suggests the WWE has plans to induct Savage, his brother and father at a future WrestleMania weekend.

Nonetheless, it is unfortunate that a household name like the "Macho Man," who redefined the performance art of wrestling, will have to wait another year to be immortalized into the Hall of Fame.

Sadly, we'll never see the bearded brawler with the renowned, raspy voice in person; but even in death, his indelible legacy deserves to be celebrated sooner rather than later.
