Cardiff City will travel to Crystal Palace for the first leg of a Carling Cup semifinal fixture on Tuesday in an exciting time for both clubs.

Both clubs are in the Championship, the second division of English football. It will be a very exciting match on Tuesday, with both fanbases craving a trophy.

The winner of this fixture will take on Premier League leaders Manchester City or Liverpool FC in the Final at Wembley Stadium in London.

Let's look at everything you need to know about this exciting matchup.

Where: Selhurst Park, South Norwood, England

Watch: Sky Sports

Live Stream: Sky Sports

When: Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 3:00 p.m. EST

Player to watch for Cardiff City: Kenny Miller

Kenny Miller leads Cardiff City with eight goals in league matches and is one of their better forwards. Miller needs to play well for Cardiff to get an early goal and put pressure on Crystal palace to respond.

Miller has one goal in Carling Cup play this season, and he will be counted on to provide some attacking strength versus Crystal Palace.

Player to watch for Crystal Palace: Glenn Murray

Glenn Murray leads Crystal Palace this season with five goals in the Championship and is an attacking player that will be counted on to provide some scoring for the club against Cardiff City.

The 28-year-old forward has one goal in two Carling Cup matches this season and must play well for Palace to get a positive result they can take with themselves to Cardiff City in the second leg.

Key Matchup: Crystal Palace back four vs. Cardiff City attack

Crystal Palace cannot allow Cardiff City to get a quick goal or two and take a commanding lead in the tie with the advantage on away goals.

Palace needs to be sound defensively, and make sure they don't make any mistakes at the back. If they can take a goalless draw back to Cardiff City, they will be set up well to make the Final at Wembley.

What they're saying

Crystal Palace manager Dougie Freedman talked about the illness his club is dealing with right now:

If there was no illness at the club, there would have been three or four who would have played. Now we have to tread carefully over the next couple of days and try and stop the virus spreading, that’s my main concern.

None of the ones who have had it have trained yet but hopefully they will do a bit tomorrow (Sunday) and then we can get together as a team on Monday.

Prediction: Cardiff City win 2-0

Cardiff City is the more talented team, and there's no reason to think they won't win the first leg away from home.

An early goal could be really demoralizing for Crystal Palace and make them chase the match. Cardiff will take the first leg and head to home with a tremendous chance to earn a trip to Wembley for the Carling Cup Final against either Liverpool or Manchester City.
