Warriors Star David Lee Hospitalized According to Golden State GM

Zachary D. RymerJan 2, 2012

It sounds like David Lee is feeling a bit under the weather.

Via Matt Steinmetz of CSNBayArea.com, here's the latest news from Golden State Warriors general manager Larry Riley:

Steinmetz reported earlier on Monday that Lee was not going to play against the Phoenix Suns because of an illness. Dominic McGuire started in Lee's place.

Per Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group, the Warriors aren't exactly sure what's wrong with Lee.

"Lee is pretty ill," writes Thompson. "So ill, he was at a local hospital instead of warming up. They aren’t sure yet whether it’s food poisoning, the flu or some kind of virus."

Interestingly enough, Thompson tweeted that Stephen Curry is also feeling under the weather. It could be that there's a little something going around in the Warriors' locker room.

For now, they'll have to make do without Lee, who is their second-leading scorer with 18.8 points per game and their leading rebounder with 8.0 rebounds per game.

The Warriors' next game is on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs. Lee could play in that game if he recovers enough, but the Warriors could also decide to send him back to the Bay Area ahead of their next home stand, which starts on Saturday against the Utah Jazz.

On the bright side, star guard Monta Ellis is playing against the Suns after missing a game so he could attend his grandmother's funeral in Mississippi.

As it is, the Warriors have been missing a starter in three straight games.

Update: Monday, Jan. 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Good news, Warriors fans. Here's the latest from Marcus Thompson:

It's still unclear exactly what landed Lee in the hospital in the first place, but the fact that he is out and resting comfortably can be taken to mean that it was nothing serious.
