Thierry Henry: Arsenal Legend Reportedly Set To Sign Off On Return

Nicholas GossDec 29, 2011

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is reportedly ready to agree to a two-month loan deal, according to Sky Sports, to return to The Emirates and help the Gunners start 2012 strongly.

The King of Highbury would give Arsenal much-needed help in the Premier League, with the club facing massive battles with Manchester United and Tottenham in the next two months.

During his two-month loan, Henry would be able to feature in seven league games, Arsenal's Champions League round of 16 first leg match against AC Milan, and FA Cup matches.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has wanted another forward to support world-class striker Robin van Persie, who leads the Premier League with 16 goals this season.

If something were to happen to Van Persie, such as an injury, the Gunners would really struggle to find goal scoring on a consistent basis.

Henry won't be the scoring machine he was during his prime, but he will be a quality attacking talent for Arsenal during his loan spell, no question about it.

Henry is the club's all-time leading scorer and left Arsenal in June 2007 to join Barcelona. He has most recently been playing for the New York Red Bulls of the MLS.

Wenger will see forwards Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh leave Arsenal in January to participate in the African Cup of Nations, which has made bringing in attacking reinforcements necessary during the January transfer window.

Henry has trained with the Gunners since mid-November and has looked good in his sessions with the team.

At 34 years old, it will be interesting to see what kind of role Henry will play in the Arsenal attack during his loan, but according to center back Per Mertesacker, he will be a strong addition to the club.

"

"I am very happy to play against him in training and it is a great experience," Mertesacker said. "He is playing very, very good. He is a great opportunity for us, but I'm not the manager. I couldn't make a decision on what is possible for him or for us.

"In training, he shows his class and to have him with us is great because he shows his attitude, his experience. He still has the same attitude he showed in a lot of games at Arsenal."

"

Arsenal has bounced back well from a terrible start to the season, and have climbed to fifth in the league table, one point behind Chelsea in fourth and two points ahead of sixth-place Liverpool.

The next two months are a huge time for the club, because any struggles in the next four to eight weeks could see Arsenal's trophy drought continue.

Someone of Henry's quality and experience will not only help on the pitch but off it as well. He will be a fantastic mentor to the younger Gunners who will lead the club into the future.

Not only can Henry give the Gunners attacking quality for a few months, his loan would be a massive boost for the fans, whose love for the Frenchman will never die. Henry recently had a statue of him unveiled outside the Emirates.

Henry scored 227 goals and won two Premier League titles with Arsenal between 1999 and 2007.
