Enrique Florence Announcement: What It Means for Auburn Football

John SmithFeb 2, 2011

Enrique Florence has announced Tuesday that he is signing his National Letter of Intent with the Auburn Tigers

Florence picked the Tigers over Alabama, Arkansas and USC.

He is a 4-star recruit and he is ranked as the fifth best safety prospect according to Scout.com. Florence is also the 52nd-best overall prospect, according to ESPNU's Top 150, a ranking of the best prospects of the 2011 class.

Florence should add speed and depth to this Tigers defense, his 40 time is listed at 4.46.

Last year, Cam Newton and the offense led Auburn to a National Championship, and the defense struggled at times last year.

Florence should be able to make an immediate impact from day one and could end up starting for the Tigers in the 2011 season. Even if he doesn't start, he should be a solid No. 2 and he will need to step up as necessary.

Auburn comes in with a top-10 recruiting class, and this commitment should improve their ranking. However, Signing Day is young and their are still plenty of announcements still to be made.

Auburn is still in the running for the best OT recruit Cyrus Kouandijio, who will make his decision at 12:00 EST.

There is also interest from the top overall prospect in the country, DE Jadeveon Clowney, but he has said that he will wait until February 14 to make his announcement. Four-star DT Gabe Wright is a another possibility, and he is also strongly considering Alabama and Tennessee.

So, Auburn fans, what does this commitment mean to you and to this football program?
