Nike Pro Combat Uniforms: Why UGA Fans Should Worry About Football, Not Fashion
A number of fans are unhappy with the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms the Georgia Bulldogs will wear in the Chick-Fil-A Kick-Off game against the Boise State Broncos on September 3rd.
It’s silly for fans to care so much about what kind of uniforms their team will wear, but you do have to admire the Bulldog Nation’s passion. They love their team, and they always love tradition.
Breaking that tradition doesn’t always sit too well with the fans, however, those fans distraught over the new-look need to just calm down.
The uniforms aren’t that terrible, and the Bulldogs only plan to wear them in one game. I agree that there is a lot of red going on, but fans should really just get over it. The players are happy with the uniforms, and that’s all that really matters.
Heck, they could wear pink for all I care, because nothing matters as long as they’re playing well.
Does that mean if they stink fans should blame the uniforms? Absolutely not, because what you wear has nothing to do with how you play, but I guarantee their will be folks saying it was just another stunt gone wrong.
How about we focus on actual football, and not what the players are wearing so much?
Mark Richt put it best when he reacted to all the fans disliking the new uniforms. Per Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"I think there are a lot of people that just don’t want to get away from [tradition] and I don’t blame them, Richt said. That’s the reason we’re sticking it out there two weeks in advance, so everybody can get over it.
"
He’s exactly right. Toughen up fans, because the game we all love so much is about way more than the uniforms.
So relax a little bit over these uniforms, and if you still need something to worry about then the news that running back Richard Samuel, nose guard John Jenkins, defensive end Ray Drew and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell are all battling and recovering from injuries will give you your worry fix.
Don’t freak too much because all of these are just minor injuries. Samuel is expected to be back next week from a strained quadriceps muscle, Jenkins has a mild hamstring pull, Mitchell has a pulled leg muscle and Drew is still healing up from a separated shoulder he endured in a scooter accident.
Not to mention that freshman running back Isaiah Crowell has been a little banged up, as well as nose guard Kwame Geathers.
As you can see, the Bulldogs have real problems to handle, and the last thing they need is for all their fans to act so childish over some uniforms.
I’ll withhold from truly judging the new-look until I actually see them on the players, and really you should as well. Seeing them on a mannequin does not help Georgia or Nike’s case for trying to pitch them as these awesome new jerseys.
Fans’ whining about the Nike Pro Combat uniforms is just further proof that the football season just needs to hurry up and start.
