John Theus: No. 2 Offensive Tackle Commits to Georgia, Spurns Florida and Texas
Five-star offensive tackle John Theus (Jacksonville, FL) did not waste much time deciding where he will play college football after narrowing his list down to three last Friday. Exactly one week later, Theus announced he will be heading to Georgia in 2012.
The Bolles High School standout called Georgia head coach Mark Richt last night to give him the good news.
"I committed," Theus told UGASports.com Friday night. "No interviews tonight. I just want to enjoy this night with my family."
Theus is the No. 7 overall prospect and No. 2 offensive tackle according to Rivals.com and will join his brother Nathan Theus, who is an offensive lineman for the Bulldogs.
The 6'6" and 292 pound offensive tackle chose the Bulldogs over Florida and Texas, who were in his final three schools, along with 19 other schools who offered him a scholarship.
Theus is the 11th commitment in Georgia's 2012 recruiting class and is the first offensive lineman in the Bulldogs' class. Richt hopes to pick up five more offensive linemen by national signing day according to the article detailing Theus' commitment.
This comes as no surprise to me because I thought Theus would join his brother in Georgia in the article I wrote last week about his final three schools.
I am sure Florida fans have to be a little bit stunned Will Muschamp allowed one of the nation's top 10 prospects to escape from the Gators' backyard.
