College Football Recruiting: RB Nick Burrello Aiming for Big Ten School
Glenbard West High School has a top running back that isn't getting much love.
Senior running back Nick Burrello has been the school's top performer this year, but has yet to get a serious offer from a college program.
Burrello has been the star of Glenbard West's varsity team for two years running.
In 2009, as a junior, Burrello netted 1,867 total yards of offense. He was a kick returner, wide receiver and running back. He had 658 yards receiving, 584 yards rushing and 625 return yards for 10 total touchdowns.
After his junior year, Burrello was nominated for 2009 Illinois Player of the Year. His accomplishments that year made for a really sweet highlight video.
This season, Burrello has over 2,000 total offensive yards, has been Glenbard West's feature back and is putting in key performances.
Burrello came up huge against Plainfield North and its senior running back Kapri Bibbs on Oct. 30. Even though Bibbs is considered the best back in the state, Burrello played the game of his life that night.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Burrello had 284 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns. He had 195 rushing yards on 19 carries and three touchdown runs of 70, 12 and 2 yards. He had two 37-yard catches from senior quarterback Daver Glawe, the last of which was a touchdown.
Burrello can run a 4.4 second 40-yard dash, and he also plays basketball and track.
College programs have not committed to Burrello yet, but he has shown interest in joining larger programs like Northwestern, Iowa and Northern Illinois.
Some coaches feel that if Burrello puts on 20 extra pounds, he could dominate in college.
