College Teams with the Most 2016 Army All-American Recruits
The 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Saturday (noon ET on NBC) will feature many of the top high school football players in the entire country.
Thirty-two different schools will be represented by current 2016 commitments in this year's recruiting showcase, but only a dozen have at least three pledges on the roster.
Here are the college teams with the most recruits at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl—a list of some of the biggest names in the game and some emerging recruiting powers.
(For a look at the All-American players who aren't currently committed to any school, check out this list of predictions from Bleacher Report national recruiting analyst Sanjay Kirpalani.)
These teams are listed from fewest to most commitments, and ones with the same number are listed in alphabetical order. All star and position rankings are from 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
Clemson
1 of 12
Army All-American commitments (3): 5-star DT Dexter Lawrence, 5-star RB Tavien Feaster and 4-star DE Xavier Kelly
Two days before seeing this season's Tigers go up against Alabama for the national championship, Clemson fans can get a sneak peek at the program's future in the Army All-American Bowl.
Clemson is the only team with multiple 5-star commitments who will be playing in the All-American Bowl—defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, the top-rated player in the game, and speedy back Tavien Feaster.
Kirpalani named Lawrence one of his top five players to watch in the All-American Bowl, writing how "Lawrence is looking to validate his ranking as one of the nation’s top overall players with a strong week" similar to what Rashan Gary did at the Under Armour All-America Game.
Feaster, the No. 1 all-purpose back in the class of 2016, has received rave reviews from recruiting analysts during this week's practices. According to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, "there isn’t a running back in America in this class with more tools than Feaster."
The third Clemson commitment at the game is 4-star Xavier Kelly, a speedy defensive end who stands out with his athleticism. He should be a great fit in Clemson's fierce defensive front down the road.
Kentucky
2 of 12
Army All-American commitments (3): 4-star OT Landon Young, 4-star OC Drake Jackson and 3-star ILB Kash Daniel
One of the more recent names to rise in the recruiting world, Kentucky has a trio of current commitments who will line up at the Army All-American Bowl.
The offensive line duo of Landon Young and Drake Jackson are the headline names. Young, who hails from Kentucky's home of Lexington, stood out to Bleacher Report's Damon Sayles in practice.
"Landon Young is a long offensive tackle at 6'7" and 270 pounds, and he showed that he could personally step his game up on Tuesday," Sayles wrote. "A Kentucky pledge, Young showed great footwork and, most importantly, kept defensive ends away from his quarterbacks."
Fellow 4-star Jackson is the No. 2-rated center in this year's recruiting cycle, and Barton Simmons of 247Sports called him the "most valuable lineman" of the entire West team roster. His consistency and snapping ability make him a prized pickup for the Wildcats.
Simmons also raved about 3-star linebacker Kash Daniel for his leadership and communication skills—talents that will go a long way for this rising recruit.
Michigan
3 of 12
Army All-American commitments (3): 4-star QB Brandon Peters, 4-star DT Jordan Elliott and 4-star OG Michael Onwenu
This year's All-American Bowl has a lot of great quarterback talent, and one of the top signal-callers is currently committed to Jim Harbaugh and Michigan.
Brandon Peters, the No. 1 recruit in the state of Indiana, has excellent size for a pocket-passing quarterback at 6'4" and did a great job of taking care of the ball during practices this week.
"He’ll be fun to watch develop in Ann Arbor as the Avon (Ind.) High talent continues to work on his fundamentals," Wiltfong wrote. "There wasn't much opportunity for the quarterbacks to air it out, and Peters is a guy that when he's in command of his offense, is in complete control, but out here on day one everything was foreign."
According to Sayles, Jordan Elliott emerged as one of the top practice stars by dominating his one-on-one matchups on the interior of the defensive line. He can provide an impressive pass rush from the position, making him a player to watch as soon as he steps onto campus at Michigan.
Michael Onwenu, one of the top guards in the entire country, will be one to watch Saturday from a physical standpoint. His biggest assets are his strength and quickness.
Texas A&M
4 of 12
Army All-American commitments (3): 4-star DE Justin Madubuike, 4-star CB Charles Oliver and 4-star DE Mark Jackson Jr.
Another team with a trio of U.S. Army All-Americans, Texas A&M will look to continue its recent surge of bringing blue chips to College Station in the closing stages of the 2016 recruiting cycle.
Justin Madubuike is the highest-rated future Aggie in San Antonio this week. Madubuike has been hampered by a leg injury and hasn't been able to go 100 percent in practices for the game, but Brian Perroni of 247Sports says the pass-rusher should play Saturday.
Charles Oliver was mostly a running back during his senior year of high school in Fairfield, Texas, but he seems to have made the adjustment back to the defensive side of the ball well. Standing nearly 6'3" tall, Oliver has great size and potential for the future.
Perhaps the defensive lineman who has made the biggest impression in All-American practice is one of the smallest—6'2", 226-pound Mark Jackson Jr. He proved size didn't matter with his work in drills, and he should carry that over into Saturday's game.
"On a team featuring a solid defensive line, Jackson was a constant distraction to the offense," Sayles wrote. "He wasn't allowed to touch the quarterback in 11-on-11 drills, but if he were given the green light, he would have finished practice with multiple sacks."
UCLA
5 of 12
Army All-American commitments (3): 4-star DE Breland Brandt, 3-star K JJ Molson and 2-star LS Johnny Den Bleyker
Of the three UCLA commitments who are All-Americans in San Antonio this week, Breland Brandt is the biggest name. The 6'3" defensive end is facing a step up from his usual competition, but it hasn't seemed to faze him.
"We saw some flash out of UCLA commit Breland Brandt on Tuesday," Simmons wrote. "Though he comes from a background that doesn't face elite competition, Brandt seems to be adjusting well to the All-American setting, and his frame and length are outstanding."
The Los Angeles native committed to UCLA all the way back in October 2014 out of a who's-who list of offers. Brandt was recruited by Alabama, USC, Miami and Washington in addition to the Bruins.
The other two commitments from UCLA are specialists. Canadian kicker JJ Molson is the No. 2-rated kicker in the class of 2016 and is also a strong punter.
Johnny Den Bleyker was also named an All-American for his work as a long snapper, a truly underrated position in the college game. He's the nation's No. 4 player at his position.
Florida State
6 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 4-star DE Janarius Robinson, 4-star ATH Jamel Cook, 4-star OT Josh Ball and 4-star OLB Josh Brown
Florida State currently has the nation's No. 3 recruiting class, and the latest crop of top talent set to head into Tallahassee is well-represented at this week's All-American Bowl.
Janarius Robinson was officially announced as an early enrollee at Florida State on Wednesday, and he's coming off a strong senior season in which he led his high school to the playoffs for the first time in a decade. At 6'5" and boasting an impressive skill set, he could make an instant impact for the Seminoles.
According to Sayles, 4-star athlete Jamel Cook has the ability to play anywhere in the secondary thanks to his length and ability in one-on-one coverage. He has the chance to be the next versatile star to come out of the Florida State secondary.
Josh Ball had strong practices on the interior line for the East team and will be tasked with slowing down some impressive defensive line talent in Saturday's game. According to Wiltfong, the Virginia native had "several eye-opening blocks" in practices.
Josh Brown, another early enrollee, recently won his third state championship in North Carolina and had 20 tackles for loss heading into the season finale. He'll be one to watch on passing downs.
Georgia
7 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 5-star QB Jacob Eason, 4-star DT Julian Rochester, 4-star OT Ben Cleveland and 4-star ILB Jaleel Laguins
As Kirpalani wrote earlier this week, no other player in this game has been talked about more than Georgia quarterback commitment Jacob Eason.
"Now that his recruitment is settled, and he’s officially bound for Athens, his next task will be showing the country why he’s billed as the top overall passer in the 2016 class," Kirpalani wrote. "If Eason can continue to display his poise and accuracy all week long, he’s likely to leave San Antonio with his ranking in tact."
In addition to the 5-star passer, Georgia will also be represented in San Antonio by three 4-star recruits, the highest-rated being Julian Rochester. The 6'5", 321-pound Rochester is the latest of several highly rated defensive linemen from the Peach State, and it'll be hard to keep your eyes off him.
Fellow Georgia native Ben Cleveland is in the middle of a phenomenal week in San Antonio. Wiltfong wrote Cleveland "is no question the best looking lineman on the hoof and along with that has every trait coveted at the offensive line position including the ability to really bend."
Inside linebacker Jaleel Laguins is currently picking up momentum on the recruiting trail from one of Georgia's biggest rivals. The Dawg commitment was recently contacted by new Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, per Keith Niebuhr of 247Sports, and it's easy to see why.
Michigan State
8 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 4-star DE Josh King, 4-star WR Cameron Chambers, 4-star S Demetric Vance and 3-star OLB Brandon Randle
Even after a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff berth, Michigan State fans have a lot more to be excited about for the future with its current recruiting class.
Josh King is one of the top names in the Spartans' list of commitments, and the top prospect from the state of Illinois has a great opportunity to be a star down the road. He's almost 6'7" and is quite athletic for his massive frame at the defensive end position.
Cameron Chambers is set to enroll early in East Lansing as a new Michigan State wide receiver, and he'll have one more chance to flash his skills for Spartans fans before reporting to campus. He'll have the opportunity to play early at Michigan State.
Demetric Vance turned heads from the moment he arrived in San Antonio. According to Wiltfong, he has the longest arms of any defensive back in the All-American Bowl, and he has great potential for the future.
Brandon Randle is one of the lowest-rated players in this year's game, but he's stood out as one of the biggest "freaks" on the field. Wiltfong wrote Randle has the longest arms and biggest hands of any linebacker on the East squad.
Notre Dame
9 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 4-star OT Tommy Kraemer, 4-star OLB Daelin Hayes, 4-star RB Tony Jones Jr., 3-star LS John Shannon
Notre Dame has three impressive 4-star commitments and the nation's best player at his position in San Antonio for the All-American Bowl this week.
According to Tom Loy of 247Sports, Tommy Kraemer has been one of the most dominant offensive linemen in a stacked group of talent during practices. The second-team USA Today All-American is considered a 5-star by 247Sports' own set of recruit rankings.
Daelin Hayes is a 6'4" outside linebacker from Michigan, and he committed to the Fighting Irish last month from a strong list of powerhouse programs. He will not play in the game, but he's been in San Antonio doing a lot of recruiting for the Fighting Irish.
Tony Jones Jr., another blue-chip prospect from the famed IMG Academy in Florida, boasts a solid all-around game out of the backfield. Loy wrote he was impressed with the 4-star back's power and pass blocking in practices.
John Shannon will look to nail down his No. 1 overall ranking among long snappers this weekend in the All-American Bowl. The Illinois native has been a strong commitment to the Irish since last March.
Stanford
10 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 4-star QB KJ Costello, 4-star OLB Curtis Robinson, 4-star OT Clark Yarbrough and 4-star WR Simi Fehoko
Fresh off a Pac-12 championship and a commanding Rose Bowl victory, Stanford fans will be able to tune in to the All-American Bowl to watch a strong group of current Cardinal commitments.
KJ Costello is one of several ace quarterbacks in San Antonio this week, and he's currently rated as the No. 5 pro-style passer in this year's class. According to Ryan Bartow of 247Sports, one of Costello's top goals as a high school quarterback was to be a part of the All-American Bowl, and now he'll be playing in it Saturday.
Curtis Robinson was listed by Simmons as the West's No. 2 defender in the second day of practices. His ability to make plays in coverage will set him apart from most outside linebackers in his class.
Clark Yarborough, one of the top offensive tackles in this cycle, had a rough start in San Antonio but rebounded on Tuesday for a strong practice. He'll look to carry that momentum into a strong performance on the big stage Saturday.
The No. 1 player out of the state of Utah, the 6'3 ½" Simi Fehoko is a tall receiver who racked up plenty of touchdowns during his high school days. His game looks like a perfect fit in the Stanford offense.
USC
11 of 12
Army All-American commitments (4): 4-star WR Tyler Vaughns, 4-star WR Michael Pittman, 4-star WR Trevon Sidney and 4-star OT Frank Martin II
Whenever the West team drops back for a pass in Saturday's game, there's a good chance a USC commitment is going to be involved. The Trojans currently hold pledges from three of the West Coast's best receivers at the All-American Bowl.
That group is led by Tyler Vaughns, the nation's No. 1 receiver. Kirpalani called him a player to watch this weekend as he looks to lock down the top ranking in his position in the midst of a talented bunch of playmakers in the passing game.
At 6'4", Michael Pittman is hard to ignore out wide, and he showcased a strong all-around game early in practices. Wiltfong named Pittman one of the top performers of Monday's practice for his hands, route running and vertical threat.
The speedy Trevon Sidney will also be one to watch in San Antonio, and Trojan fans won't be the only ones eyeing him. According to Perroni, he plans on visiting several schools in the coming weeks, including a possible return to the Lone Star State to see Texas A&M.
But wide receiver isn't the only area featuring a future Trojan. Frank Martin II, a 4-star offensive tackle, recently told Perroni he is shutting down his recruitment and taking one more visit to USC.
Ohio State
12 of 12
Army All-American commitments (6): 5-star DE Jonathon Cooper, 4-star RB Demario McCall, 4-star WR Austin Mack, 4-star TE Jake Hausmann, 4-star OT Michael Jordan and 3-star P Drue Chrisman
The program with the highest representation at the All-American Bowl is none other than Ohio State. While the Buckeyes have six pledges in San Antonio, no other team has more than four.
Jonathan Cooper is the top name from Urban Meyer and his staff's current crop of talent, which is ranked No. 2 nationally for the class of 2016. Cooper is the No. 25 overall prospect in the country and the No. 2 weak-side defensive end, so he'll have the attention of the quarterbacks on Saturday.
Austin Mack wowed those in San Antonio at practice with his 4.4 speed and highlight-reel catching ability. According to Wiltfong, Mack is hard to bring down in the open field and should make an instant impact in Columbus this upcoming fall.
Another name to watch on offense from Ohio State is Jake Hausmann, who has the potential to get involved in the two-deep depth chart from his true freshman campaign. Offensive tackle Michael Jordan was held out of a practice this week with an injury, but Buckeyes fans will get to see him early on in Columbus as a spring enrollee.
Finally, the nation's No. 1 punter, Drue Chrisman, is currently committed to Ohio State. The Ohio native has been a solid commitment to the Buckeyes since last May.
